The only reason he was fired was because he was getting a little too close to discovering truth about Russia's involvement in the election.

FBI director was fired under vague and suspicious circumstances. This strange event should prompt Republican members of Congress to stand first as Americans!

Like many Clinton supporters I believe Comey botched the release of non-information about her emails shortly before the election BUT I don't buy Trump's claim that that is why he suddenly fired him. Comey was fired because of the Russia/Trump team investigation and his ethical refusal to swear loyalty to Trump and become another of his stooges. that firing I believe puts Trump on the slippery slimy slope to Impeachment. Comey needs to testify and refute Trump's lies about the situation. Comey may be a good candidate to be the Special Prosecutor many Americans are calling for!

The Director of the FBI serves 10 year terms, precisely for the reason of placing the position above politics. Presidents do not replace the FBI Director as Cabinet officials are replaced. The only other Director that was recently replaced by a President was during the Clinton administration and that was for personal ethics violations.

On your watch a maniacal traitorous narcissist has been allowed to occupy the oval office! Within a 100 days he has demeaned the office and made a mockery of this country abetted by greedy cronies and self serving sycophants. More time money energy and resources are being frittered on non productive nonsense than critical and urgent issues. Practically every rule on protocol and ethics is being violated with total impunity. It is your DUTY to initiate impeachment proceedings immediately and get this country back on track! This is not a request. This is an order from your employer 'we the people'! To those who voted him and his sycophants in, get an education! Use your God gifted faculties! This country CANNOT take another 100 days of this self proclaimed 'genius'!

It seems very clear that the president tried to obstruct justice.

James Comey was an honorable man as FBI Director. I did not agree with his findings and later his timing in the Clinton investigation and I do not agree that was the reason for his firing by the president. This president does not give a damn about Hillary Clinton or James Comey. That is probably an understatement. This president continues to act like a teenager with his petty vendettas and cry baby tweets. Come on! A grown up would have gone before America and fully explained why James Comey was fired. But, no, we got some bullshit answers from his sycophants until he goes on that "fake news" station NBC and totally throws all of them under the bus. He is a dangerous user of people to stroke his fragile ego. His base is with him still, but for how long?

The FBI director is a 10 year appointment to allow the agency and the DOJ to maintain independence in their investigations. Firing the director should be only done when there is true malfeasance. Comey's firing interferes with truth and justice. Another example of executive branch overreach

From Trump's own comments and his letter dismissing Comey it appears that he was dismissed because of the Russian investigation. As such it would be an obstruction of justice and Illegal.

No. A small word but today with huge meaning. I've just listened to a representative of the RNC state that the Republican Party was not concerned with anyone other than their core base. That means that my Congressional Republican Representatives are not interested in my interests. They are perfectly willing to raise my taxes and pass laws that effect me and my family but do not care that I do not agree with some of their decisions. No Comey should not have been fired nor should have Yates or former US Attorney Bharara. One of the investigations Bharara was conducting was possible money laundering via real estate deals for Russia Oligarchs by Trump, Ms Yates was attempting to warn Trump that Flynn was a security risk and Comey, although he had made some questionable decisions, was investigating Russian involvement in the 2016 Presidential election and possible collusion between persons in the Trump campaign and the Russians. Prior to his firing the Senate and the House committees had been compromised by members of those committees. The Congressional Republicans seem to have no interest in getting to the truth. Comey at least seemed to be an honest broker. Republicans have no interest in Comey's untimely termination only in the political gains that can be made at this time. Neither do they seem to be concerned for our Democracy or Constitution. We needed Comey at least he was doing an honest job protecting our country.

Give me a break, even if he actually did something that could be considered cause, an honest President would wait so he could finish the investigation, because he would have nothing to hide. So why is there even a question like that being asked, also Trump already admitted that he did it because of the investigation ,so the point is moot. Now the question is should impeachment proceedings get started because it's a crime to try to hinder an investigation, even by the President. So far it all amounts to 3 crimes. Obstruction of justice ,for fireing Jim Comey. Abuse of power for the fireing Comey , and intimidating a witness for his tweet about the tapes to keep Comey quiet. All of this is without the Russian investigation being finished, so I think we should get the Impeachment started , while the investigation is still on then just add the extra charges if warranted. We should start as soon as possible because it is apparent he is unstable and what if an international crises arises in the meantime or he creates one. Wake Up America

I don't care for the way Comey conducted himself during the election, but this firing is far more sinister. It is obvious why he was let go. This country cannot be going down this path again!

His handling of the Clinton email was questionable. What is even more questionable is Trumps timing and flimsy excuses for firing Comey. Trump and his cronies are hiding many things and don't want a full fledged transparent, independent investigation into Russia.

The position is appointed. Usually a new President picks who they want to fill it. I'm surprised Trump waited this long to change the FBI Director.

The timing of Comey's firing and the initial lame excuses given by Trump's surrogates show how corrupt this administration is, as if we didn't already know. Now Gowdy and Cornyn are on the shortlist for the vacancy. Both of these individuals are extremely partisan. We cannot afford to have this position politicized! We need a strong nonpartisan person to head this department in order to protect our citizens from becoming the victims of political witch hunts.

Although I do not think he demonstrated great common sense by releasing poorly timed information about the investigation on Clinton's emails, the timing of his firing makes me very uneasy. As a result, I hope all members of Congress and the FBI look into his (and his campaign team's) relationships with Russia with haste and determination.
