Get rid of it; that system is archaic and has been for at least a century! We need to have our individual votes count.

The electoral college is completely irrelevant, the system didn't adapt to globalization very well. Now that people can seemingly move around the country at will, we cannot be opaque. The popular vote should be the vote. It's a democratic system based on the inherent integrity to do the right thing in all of us.

Actually the electoral college helps states to accurately be able to represent their people. It helps us maintain state sovereignty over the federal government. It prevents mob rule which means that minorities get proportionally represented, it makes it so everyone has a voice. Our Government was designed to be a representative republic. Each state has a different culture and people with different sets of values, we would lose that if we got rid of the electoral college.

We are taught your vote counts and that you get to decide who the next President will be. However, the truth is you vote to have someone else vote on your behalf...because of course, you may not know any better. Yes we either need to remove the electoral college or enlighten people with the realty of things in plain language, rather than using deceiving language to make people believe a half truth.

"Electors aren't required to vote for their state" How could this be perceived as fair?

The electoral college completely favors republicans because of population spread. If it was directly populational it would be more constitutional, and Clinton and Al Gore would have won instead of Trump and Bush.

Yeah and all the potential Electors appointed by the 2 Parties, thereby leaving no chance for a 3rd and plenty of chance for corruption.

The Electorial College is not necessary or prudent. Not only can a person become president without receive the majority of votes, but the electoral college also adds to citizens feeling their vote does not count. I have lived in states where I knew my political views were in the minority. As a minority voter in a state, why should I even vote when I know all the electoral votes will follow the majority vote of the state. Each person's vote should be counted no matter where they live. Make the United States a Democracy rather than a Republic!!

Our votes should count for something and as long as there is an electoral college they literally mean next to nothing. It has to go! Everyone's individual voice needs to be heard for this to truly be a democracy.

There is nothing wrong with the electoral college. I don't want California and New York electing our president when we have 48 other states. Plus there is more chance for voter fraud in the popular vote than the electoral college i.e.: this last election. How do we know that the three counties in CA that Hillary got the bulk of her votes did not have a ton of fraudulent votes. After all the presidential vote was 3.8 more votes then the US Senate ran and they were on the same ballot. To me that spells voter fraud big league.

The Elector College, in its original design: to guard against those who are ill equipped for the office of the President, those whom would attempt to, buy their way to the Presidency, and those whom are beholding to other countries, whether that be in affections or in monetary status. Electors themselves are supposed to be the most educated, discerning, and forthright in our public. To ensure that those whom do not have the best interest of the United States of America or our democracy, not be allowed in to the highest office of the land. However, it failed! As did our states, by setting laws that inhibits the electors to vote for the most qualified candidate to be President. That is how the Elector College is suppose to act, work, and it was designed. And thus, to ensure "We the people of the United States..." survive. Now, the Electoral college works, in some places, electors are voted in by their respective political parties, Governors, or by the Election boards of each state ( by the party, that is in charge). Those selected, in most states, are required by state laws to vote by the results of their states popular vote.

Need to do away with the "electoral college", with todays communication and Information Age, the popular vote should be the only thing used. The electoral college can be corrupted, misused and abused. Get rid of the winner takes all undemocratic electoral college. We expect other countries to use the popular vote and we don't. Then every vote will count. It make it harder to buy election. We are the melting pot of the world, which does represent all our country. Also the should be check and balance, a paper trail, vote by mail nation wide.

What's the point of voting when the peoples' voices don't have any weight? The electoral college was formed at a time when free slaves in the North could vote, outnumbering those still in the South who were not free and could not vote. It's 2016 and the world is different now. One person, one vote should lead to a president elected by the People. NOT the Electoral College.
