Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S.—43.8 million, or 18.5%—experiences mental illness in a given year. Approximately 1 in 25 adults in the U.S.—9.8 million, or 4.0%—experiences a serious mental illness in a given year that substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities.
The stigma attached to mental health is shameful. Our representatives, lawmakers and politicians are not doing near enough to help those of us in serious need of help. The stigma still exists and it must end.
So I ask of you now to call or email or do whatever it is you do to contact your local representatives and demand that they make mental health issues top priority.
