Lawmakers On Standby Amid Impasse in Coronavirus Relief Negotiations

What’s happening in Congress?
- Negotiations between Democrats and Republicans over coronavirus relief legislation are at a standstill, and with Congress’s annual August recess looming it may be a relatively quiet week in the Capitol.
SENATE SCHEDULE
- The Senate is in session with a skeleton crew, but no votes are scheduled and senators have been told they will have at least 24 hours of notice before any votes occur.
- While no votes are scheduled, senators who are present at the Capitol may attempt to pass legislation by unanimous consent.
- After this week, the Senate’s next scheduled day in session is Tuesday, September 8th.
- No committee hearings are scheduled.
HOUSE SCHEDULE
- The House began its summer recess on August 1st, and its next scheduled voting day is Monday, September 14th.
- However, lawmakers may be recalled sooner with 24 hours of notice if a compromise over coronavirus relief is reached.
- No committee hearings are scheduled.
