Coughing & Sneezing - The Right Way
My expression when someone sneezes or coughs in my face:
As a general rule, it’s important to practice good hygiene etiquette whenever you're out. And it’s especially important to do so when you’re sick, as many serious diseases - including the coronavirus - are spread through coughing and sneezing.
When you’re coughing or sneezing, remember to:
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue.
- Dispose of your used tissues in a waste basket.
- Cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve (not your hands!) if you don’t have a tissue on hand. (Don't worry, no one will think you're dabbing.)
Remember to also wash your hands after coughing or sneezing (check out this article for info on the best handwashing practices).
Practicing proper cough or sneeze etiquette is especially important in public settings like:
- Buses, subways, and other forms of public transport.
- Places frequented by immunocompromised individuals, such as hospitals or nursing homes.
- When you suspect your illness is particularly contagious.
