Survey: Should Congress Let the Government Shut Down?

by Countable | 4.24.17

The federal government is about to run out of money, and while the White House is confident there won't be a lapse in funding, some lawmakers aren't as sure — especially if funding for the Trump administration's border wall is included.

Congress should shut down. Holding the ACA hostage to receive money to build a wall that we don't need is an act of terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Impeach #45.

Do not let the budget be held hostage just to get the wall built. There are much more important things to fund, the environment and NIH.

This is like the scene in Blazing Saddles where Clever n Little holds a gun to his head saying he will shoot the hostage, which is himself. We. Are. Not. Repealing. ACA for a freaking useless wall and/or wealthy tax cuts.

SINCE you congress people and senators can not figure out how to negotiate with each other civilly ... and can only resolve things by threats of dire consequences... DO IT RIGHT for a change! Make SURE when you SHUT down the gov't that includes Air Force One for ALL non-emergency travel... include your travel too! YOUR AND Donald's paychecks and benefits should remain forfeited for the time the gov't is unfunded DUE to YOUR intransigence ... IF YOU are so determined to have a WALL this should all be a minor sacrifice for you!

Shut it down until we have a lower more reasonable budget that does not include a useless border wall.

Don't need Border wall, don't need enhanced border security. Use the money to make lives of Americans better, I.e healthcare, education, etc. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Shut it down if need be.

I completely agree with the Democrats' position - no money for a useless and expensive border wall, fund planned parenthood, EPA and NIH and keep the insurance plan we have not only operational but operating WELL for as many people as possible until Republicans come up with a better plan or Trump is impeached. Until those provisions are out of or in the budget, no agreement. Shutting government down will crash the economy and lower our credit rating as it did before, but then so did lowering taxes for the wealthy. Been there done that. I lived with losing it all under the last Republican administration, and I will again under this one. Some day I suppose they will learn. Or not.

SHUT IT DOWN. No wall with my tax dollars, if Trumpsters want it so bad, set up a GoFundMe account and let them pay for it! Do not hold the ACA hostage for a wall of hate and tax breaks for the wealthy... slash corporate taxes from 35 to 15%?! No to the Billionaires agenda! Congress need to listen to the real majority and do what is right and good for the poor and middle classes.

It is irresponsible to hold the US daily operations and federal workers hostage for a petty game of chicken. We want governance, not bullying!

If the Republicans demand concessions that will hurt people, to the benefit of the wealthy, or make the country a more hateful place, shut that shit down by any means necessary.

If Trump demands the money for the wall, then let her t shut down. If he makes cuts to the ACA, shut it down. These demands and threats that do nothing but hurt people.

No idiotic wall!!!! And don't touch our healthcare. The fact that we have to fight for our right to basic healthcare on a weekly basis is sick and criminal. This administration's collusion with Russia is what should be focused upon. Do your jobs.

We don't need a wall! We do need health care for everyone. Figure out how to do the right thing for your citizens. Take all the money trump is WASTING with every trip to mar-a-lago and get us all healthcare. No more tax cuts for the super-rich; no more poisoning our water and air. Start being a responsible government!!!

If the only choices are (1) take away health care and build a monument to racism and xenophobia for our descendants to tear down in shame and (2) shut down the government, I say shut it down. Too bad there doesn't seem to be a third option like, I don't know, working together to save the planet and enhance the lives of all her inhabitants, not just funnel more money into the offshore accounts of the wealthiest powermongers.

The fact that some people believe a government shutdown to be beneficial in any way is concerning. A shut down is not only detrimental to the well-being of the country, it is also embarrassing. Congress needs to learn how to put the needs of the people ahead of their own political agendas. Until then, America will continue to be ruled - and divided - along party lines.
