Sites Go on ‘Red Alert’ for Net Neutrality

by Countable | Updated on 5.9.18

What’s the story?

  • Amazon, Netflix, Facebook, Google, Reddit, Pornhub and a host of other tech companies are holding a day of protest Wednesday to draw attention to net neutrality.

  • The “Red Alert for Net Neutrality” coincides with a Congressional push to restore net neutrality protections, which were officially repealed by the GOP-led Federal Communications Commission on April 23.

What’s happening in Congress on Wednesday?

  • On May 9, half the Senate - forty-nine Democrats and independents, one Republican - will present a petition to force a vote on a resolution to undo the FCC rollback.
  • The Senators are led by Ed Markey (D-MA), who tweeted:

What’s a Congressional Review Act?

  • Under the Congressional Review Act (CRA), Congress can nullify recently passed legislation with a simple majority. And any 30 senators can force a vote to be scheduled, rather than waiting for a committee decision.

What happens if the Senate vote is successful?

  • Even if Markey's bill does pass the Senate, it would still need a majority in the House, where the GOP controls more seats. Then, it would head to President Donald Trump’s desk—and the president, who’s supported the net neutrality rollback, would likely veto the legislation.

Support Net Neutrality and do not let big corporations highjack the internet in order to complete illegal anti-trust monopolies to control the costs of the internet. Get these corporate hacks out of government!

Please support net neutrality. It is/was the overwhelming majority of what American people want. You gave the 1% a trillion dollar tax deal. At least let us have net neutrality.

The Senate will vote next week on a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to block the FCC's repeal of net neutrality and keep the web free and open. As polls show 86% of Americans, including an overwhelming majority of Republican voters, oppose the FCC's order, and with more and more Republican lawmakers expressing skepticism about the FCC's vote, there is a good chance that the FCC order will be overturned. I urge you to vote against the FCC order. Thank you.

Please help sustain equitable access to life-critical and national importance information and services. The FCC violates the constitutional rights of citizens in prioritizing market profitability mechanics over what is essentially the same as electricity, but with far more insidious impacts. The US needs to catch up with the rest of the world on communications infrastructure, as citizens are charged dozens of times the price for equivalent service - sometimes equivalent, good services not even available.

If this isn’t enough for the Republicans in Congress to see that net neutrality is important to companies, as well as regular Americans, then they are DENSER than I thought. DUH. It’s a matter of freedom of speech for the entire country.

Well, net neutrality is like, Bolshevik, democracy, progressives, even Federalist. All these are the opposite of the name. Bolshevik means majority; they were never more than a fraction of the population. Democracy means rule by the people; it has always been mob rule! My three cats deciding the fate of a mouse! Progressives wanted not progress, rather reactionary control in every aspect of life! And net neutrality isn’t neutrality. If it were, all ideas, those we disdain and seem disgusting would have equal footing with all others. Racist jokes, porn of all types, hate speech you can’t even imagine, violence, etc.... All are equal, neutral. No, no, we need some regulations you’d say. Well then it’s not neutral, it’s controlled. That’s what you say you’re against a controlled net. So, you think some immoral bureaucracy can do a better job than the market? Those in the market must satisfy customers, thus they have to maintain neutrality itself, by themselves. Oh, wait they have a monopoly, that’s because you allow government to grant them one. More government will not solve government errors. Free it all and see how happier you’ll be.

The GOP is discovering that following party lines is not the way to go. All representatives must remember who they represent ~ their constituents. Net Neutrality NOW!

As promised here are the names of the Senators who voted against the reinstatement of net neutrality. While the list is short, I have confirmed that each one of these Senators does have a Twitter account and is up for re-election. So, friends ready to come out of the closet and fight back? If so, here is are 4 Senators who may be in serious need of a public reminder of just who they represent. How can we restore legislative focus? The answer is simpler than you might think.... one legislator at a time. Mississippi: Roger Wicker Nebraska: Deb Fischer Nevada: Dean Heller Texas: Ted Cruz

Net Neutrality is a play of words just like the Liberals changed Global Warming to Climate Change and Illegal Aliens to Illegal Immigrants or Undocumented Immigrants. Or When Barack Obama became president, George Bush's war in Afghanistan suddenly transformed into the far less ominous and threatening “overseas contingency operation.” That’s one way to try to end a war: just rename it. There is nothing neutral about Net Neutrality. It’s just semantics. Democrats want you to believe Net Neutrality makes the Net Neutral when in reality they just want you to support it so they can have more Control over you. Gun Control is not controlling guns or the criminals , it’s controlling all innocent people that own a gun. So no I don’t support Net Neutrality because the semantics used, is a trick!
