Trump Considers Rejoining Trans-Pacific Partnership

by Countable | Updated on 4.13.18

What’s the story?

  • After pulling out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership days into his presidency, Donald Trump told a group of farm-state lawmakers on Thursday that he was looking into rejoining the multi-country trade agreement.

Why is Trump considering rejoining TPP?

  • Export-focused pork-producers, soybean farmers, and winemakers are some of the hardest-hit industries as China continues to pile on tit-for-tat trade tariffs.
  • Re-entering TPP would give these farmers new economic avenues for exporting their goods.

What do you think?

Would you like to see the U.S. rejoin what Trump once denounced as a “rape of our country”? What TPP terms would you consider “substantially better”? Hit Take Action and tell your reps, then share your thoughts below.

What a shock. 45 also promised to force the drug companies to renegotiate prices. 45 said he was the only republican who would not touch medicare, medicaid and social security. 45 said he'd protect Dreamers. 45 said he'd support the LGBTQIA community. 45 lied.

Duh! Another screw up by 45. Isn’t it nice to know that President Obama was right, again?

The TPP was extremely destructive, especially to the Mexican people as well as ours. #45 lies and contradicts himself in the same sentence. Why would anyone negotiate anything with him? His Administration are all profoundly inappropriate and ignorant of their agencies, so no wonder the world looks on us as a joke now. Get him out! Amendment 25 Article 4. We’re way past impeachment.

The Presidency looks differently from the Oval Office than it does while you’re spouting completely wrong and dumb talk radio talking points on the campaign trail, huh? Perhaps you’re not as good at this Presidency thing as you thought

He does. He doesn't. He will. He won't. He will again. He's for it. He's against it. He's never heard of it. He's blaming it on Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton or our closest allies or the Constitution of the United States, a document with which he is completely unfamiliar. Meanwhile, Congress stands meekly in the corner, wringing its hands and hoping that he won't be offended. It's a travesty. He's a travesty. The world disintegrates while Donald Trump tweets a few more obvious lies. Amazing.

Running the country hindsight is never good! #45 has long-stated that he could run the presidency as well as he ran his businesses. Obviously, we’re headed in that direction! It’s a scary thing to think that the end of his tenure, the US may find itself bankrupt just as many of his business ventures did. #45 thought he’d bring China to its knees when he induced the trade war. Open your eyes #45 and lawmakers, China plays the game much better than you do! Our country has lost so much since #45 took office. We need to work on bringing ourselves out of the waste pile we’re in. Did anyone notice that textiles and clothing were not part of the tax tariffs? Could it be that #45 does not wish to hamper his own name brand businesses and that of his daughters? Funny that! #45 has always and will continue to look out for his money and the rich; never the for the working class and the poor.

Do the simple people that still support trump understand that breaking something, and then sort of fixing it, doesn’t make him a hero?

Congress needs to take a good hard look at America's past including the political past of our Scottish and Irish ancestry before proceeding on their current path. It is a forgone conclusion that the majority of you will be out of jobs by the end of 2018. However, just how many of you will be brought up on charges for your crimes remains to be seen. The presidential parade of pardons will not last forever, most likely not even the next 3 years, so heed my words and use your final days in office to temper the people's hunger for justice.

If I were one of the other 11 countries, I would not be open to reconsidering negotiations with a party that has already opted out and denigrated the pact. I would remind the party that words and actions have consequences. Yes, there are benefits and drawbacks to joining TPP as there are with any trade agreement, but I don’t see any evidence that the great negotiator is able to evaluate them rationally. And sorry, but if a kid at a party decides they don’t want a piece of the cake going around, throws a tantrum and stomps on their piece, then they don’t get to come back and decide they want some after all.

Our seemingly reckless president and his handlers are engaged in a negotiating strategy called, Mad Man At The Helm. The problem is that it only works if everyone believes that he’s truly out of control. What do you think? Is it time to bomb Flint Michigan? They’ve been poisoning Americans for years.

This must be equally favorable to American business and farmers and not one sided as it was by Obama just Giving Away The House! This must be fair all the way around and not cost Americans their jobs or businesses! That’s why Trump was against it as it needs to be renegotiated! Everything Obama put his hands on turned to turd balls! That man as the socialist he is had no conception of how Free Trade and Economies work! The President is very smart and shrewd where this comes in to play! Once again! Don’t get your shorts in a bundle!

Well well well...Now he’s on board with TPP. Seems like yesterday when it was President Obama’s plan to ruin the world. Mr T has stepped in it big time with China over the tariff shenanigans, so it’s TPP time to bring the East back into the revenue fold. Let’s see what the weekend tweets have to offer.

How many times has trump declared bankruptcy? That statistic alone proves he has poor business decision making skills and should not be making decisions for an entire nation.
