While it is true that people kill people, and that guns do not shoot themselves, it is also true that mass execution would not be possible without such high capacity weapons. How many people have to die before we ban those weapons? Congress should reinstitute the federal ban on assault weapons. We've already collected 261,668 signatures! Please be the next. Violence is the nature of mankind. If you are a criminal with intent to do harm to people, a weapons ban will be ineffective. Firearms are a tool. Any tool, if in the wrong hands will cause harm. If you actually did research on this subject instead of blindly following a society’s “feelings” you would have found a study conducted by the national safety administration, FBI, and other organizations that say that firearms are overwhelmingly more responsible for the protection of life than the taking of life. You wanting to ban firearms will just give criminals a greater opportunity to cause harm in our communities. As well as it’s just another step towards tyranny and the government control of our lives.
Banning Assault Weapons is like Banning Unicorns. Why? Both don’t exist they are imaginary. The only way a weapon could be an assault weapon is if it some how got up on its own, threatened you and the took action. If that would occur then it would be called Assault with a Deadly Weapon, which we have today but that’s only possible if conducted by a person with a inanimate object. So...
What measures do we have in place to stop people from making suicide vests and walking into a crowd of people, making bombs out of pressure cookers, or driving cars into crowds? If we continue to blame the symptoms, we will never treat the disease.
This is about as vague as banning "processed foods." There really isn't a concrete definition of what an "assault weapon" is and therefore this could be stretched or contracted based on personal definitions.
jake. Thanks for repeating the bra mantra but the fact is that there is a direct correlation between the number of guns in a society and the amount of gun violence . America has about 300 million guns including as many as 10 million military style semi automatic weapons. We also have the highest per capita gun violence rate of any industrialized country. Do the math. I suggest you educate yourself before you post any more gutless bra propaganda. Thanks.
Okay, drugs such as Weed, Cocaine, and Meth are illegal, but people still have access to them. You can not keep people from getting guns. It is truly close to impossible and you will not infringe on my second amendment right to bare arms! Like Jake said, "A gun is a tool." It is whether or not you use it for the right thing or not. I need a gun for home protection. My dad needs a gun to protect my sister from harm. There are many logical uses for firearms and to even bring up the idea of banning and restricting use of them truly angers me.
