House Democrats Approve Resolution to Formalize Trump Impeachment Inquiry

The House of Representatives on Thursday voted 232-196, largely along party-lines, to formalize the process of its inquiry into whether President Donald Trump committed impeachable offenses. 

The resolution (H.Res. 660) was opposed by all Republicans in attendance, who were joined by two Democrats ― Reps. Jeff Van Drew (D-NJ) and Collin Peterson (D-MN). The rest of the Democratic caucus voted in favor of the resolution, as did the House’s lone Independent lawmaker, Rep. Justin Amash (I-MI). 

What’s next?

The House of Representatives as a whole will be on recess next week, but the impeachment inquiry will continue as the House Intelligence Committee has closed-door depositions of several officials scheduled.
