Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has agreed to testify at two Congressional hearings next week about how his company protects user data.
On April 10, Zuckerberg will testify before a joint hearing of the Senate Judiciary and Commerce Committees. On April 11, he’ll appear before the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Congressional members have been calling on the CEO to testify over reports that Cambridge Analytica mined the personal data of 87 million Facebook users without their knowledge.
Rep. Frank Pallone of New Jersey, the top Democrat on House Energy and Commerce Committee, tweeted:
In anticipation of the hearings next week, now is the time to hit Take Action and tell your reps what questions you want them asking the Facebook CEO. Is it about the specifics of the data breach? Russian propaganda during the 2016 election? What they’re doing to protect user info moving forward? When a relationship can’t be labeled "It’s complicated"? Let your lawmakers know, and share your comments below.

>What is FB doing to protect user info moving forward? >How will FB ensure that Ad buyers are legitimate? >What is FBs responsibility to ensure that ‘certification’ of wiped data has been executed? >What notification mechanism will be made available to users if their data is breached? >Are algorithms developed to capture and expose foreign-originated propaganda?
I am far more concerned with the Sinclair media monopoly. I control the data Ipost on FB. I do not have any control over what is broadcasted. My option is to turn off my tv. I have an equivalent option with FB.
Enough please! The last time I checked Face Book was a private entity not a government agency. Government and political idiots will only screw it up more than it already is! Face Book should not be involved with censorship of anything! What it should be doing is monitoring for illegal activity and predatory activity! If you as a user are not able to determine truth versus fairy tales you might want to consider educating yourself.
1) why did this happen 2) how could you not know that it happened? 3) why when you realized what happened did you not come forward and admit it? 4) how can we be certain this will never happen again going forward? 5) what restitution are you willing to make to the 87 million people whose accounts were affected? 6) why should we believe you going forward? 7) how can you prevent foreign powers from using your platform for propaganda or misdeeds?
One issue is that the platform does require financial support to continue to operate. Since the business model of free access for users being paid for by revenue from ads and data presents some issues, would you consider offering the platform as a subscription fee model in return for ad-free use and complete data privacy? How many would be willing to use under those conditions, and at what price? All users should remember: if a service is not charging you for access, especially online, then YOU (your data, profile etc) are the product being sold. With that, users need a clear notification of how their data has been used, who has accessed it, prompt notification of any breaches or abuse, and simple tools to edit their own data and delete portions, similar to what is being required in the European Union.
What solutions is Zuckerberg taking to ensure this never happens again? I expect details.
I don’t use Facebook because of their creepy business model. But data about me from others FB has been extrapolated by a malicious political marketing firm. So I ask Mr. Z, how are you going to compensate me for damage done to my brand?
Is bounty really the “quicker picker upper”?
Congress works for the same individuals who employed Cambridge Analytica, aka the Trump administration. Leaving the only person who should be asking 'the questions' is Mueller. And hopefully, he can use the data breach exposed and employed by Cambridge Analytica to determine the extent and manner our elections were and continue to be influenced. This whole build up of the Facebook Investigation is a mirage designed to fish and contaminate damaging pieces of evidence tying Cambridge Analytica to Trump.🚥My question to Mr. Zuckerberg would be: Are there any connections between the data breach and any of the assailants involved in the nearly 60 most recent, 2018, attacks of gun violence here in the US?
Congress should ask what day is Zuckerberg’s last day at Facebook, he has proven he is incapable or unwilling to protect the data his company has been entrusted with. One marks him incompetent the other culpable, neither recommends him to be in charge of an organization that has as much influence as Facebook.
It’s very simple folks.....Don’t Ask... Just tell him,to tell, the truth.
Facebook has orchestrated and PROFITED from the single greatest invasion of privacy in history, Zuckerberg has *industrialized* strip mining peoples privacy for profit. Congress should ask for his resignation if not his criminal prosecution.
The obvious questions would 1). whst did he know and when? 2). What did he do, if anything, when he learned what was going on with his company?
How will you make sure ads are truthful and prevent a political bias when it comes to campaign ads for either party platform?
Ask?? I’d tell him. Proof your news like every other responsible disseminator of news or stop selling space. He’s a dick
YOU WILL NOT CENSOR SPEECH UNLESS IT IS DIRECTLY THREATENING TO GROUPS OR INDIVIDUALS.
Why does Facebook messenger have all the permissions to basically take over your phone or computer? Why do you only have flag sympathy filters for European countries only when tragic events happen and not the rest of the world? Why do you still advertise in obvious racists publications? We know that you knew this was going on for a long time (our personal data on just about anything was available to whoever wanted it). What other crap do you need to fix that puts us at risk do you have to fix?
Do you know how many people were affected by this? Are you or someone in the company reviewing security and privacy procedures?
They should ask him about everything he was doing and why he was doing it. Seems to me like there was a lot of nefarious going ons going on there.
Need an audit of how much of our personal data Sheryl Sandberg GAVE to the Hillary campaign, without permission & what steps can be taken to stop a KNOWN ILLEGAL campaign donation of our data from ever occurring again. Along with a suitable fine & punishment. http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/03/20/flashback-facebook-coo-wanted-to-help-john-podesta-elect-hillary-clinton/
