Committee Watch: Assault Weapons, the Border Crisis, and the Intel Community Whistleblower Complaint
How do you feel about this week's committee hearings? What else should Congress hold a hearing on?
Before bills and nominations are brought up for a passage vote in Congress, they typically have to be considered and approved by relevant committees ― which also conduct oversight of federal agencies. Here’s a look at what congressional committees will be holding hearings on this week.

TUESDAY
- The Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee will hold a hearing to vote on the nomination of Eugene Scalia to serve as Secretary of Labor. 10am
- The House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing titled “Oversight of the Securities and Exchange Commission: Wall Street’s Cop on the Beat”. 10am
WEDNESDAY
- The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Protecting America from Assault Weapons”. 10am
- The House Budget Committee will hold a hearing titled “America’s Infrastructure: Today’s Gaps, Tomorrow’s Opportunities, and the Need for Federal Investment”. 10am
- The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing titled “U.S. Policy in Mexico and Central America: Ensuring Effective Policies to Address the Crisis at the Border”. 10:15am
- The Senate Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing titled “Countering Domestic Terrorism: Examining the Evolving Threat”. 2:30pm
THURSDAY
- The House Intelligence Committee will hold a hearing regarding a whistleblower disclosure with testimony from Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire. 9am
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing to advance the nominations of seven judges, the ATF director, and bills to promote justice for victims of terrorism & collect voluntary demographic data with patent applications. 10am
