In a race determined by hundreds of votes out of about 228,000 cast, the Republican candidate for a Pennsylvania district conceded Wednesday to his Democratic opponent.
Democrat Conor Lamb announced Wednesday night that his GOP opponent, Rick Saccone, had called to concede the Nov. 13 election in the Pittsburgh area district.
“Just got off the phone with my opponent, @RickSaccone4PA, who congratulated me & graciously conceded last Tuesday’s election. I congratulate Mr. Saccone for a close, hard-fought race & wish him the best. Ready to be sworn in & get to work for the people of #PA18,” Lamb tweeted.

The race proved to be tight between Saccone and Lamb, who often took more moderate positions compared to fellow Democrats. Lamb beat Saccone, who had President Donald Trump’s support, by about 600 votes.
“This afternoon, I spoke to Mr. Lamb, conceding the race in the Pennsylvania 18th Congressional District and congratulating him on his victory,” Saccone said in a note given to CBS News.
“While there are less than 800 votes separating us,” Saccone said, “the people of the 18th District deserve to have a voice representing them in Congress.”
