Committee Watch: Gun Violence & Extremism, Presidential Obstruction of Justice, and U.S. Policy on Hong Kong

Before bills and nominations are brought up for a passage vote in Congress, they typically have to be considered and approved by relevant committees ― which also conduct oversight of federal agencies. Here’s a look at what congressional committees will be holding hearings on this week.

TUESDAY
- The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on the sourcing and use of minerals for clean energy technologies. 9:30am
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing regarding Holocaust-era insurance claims. 10am
- The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Presidential Obstruction of Justice and Abuse of Power”. 1pm
- The House Intelligence Committee will hold a hearing to vote on motions to release executive session material. 5:30pm
WEDNESDAY
- The Senate Commerce Committee will hold a hearing titled “Mass Violence, Extremism, and Digital Responsibility”. 10am
- The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Oversight of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act”. 10am
- The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing titled “U.S. Policy in the Indo-Pacific Region: Hong Kong, Alliances and Partnerships, and Other Issues”. 10am
- The Joint Economic Committee will hold a hearing titled “Gun Violence in America: Understanding and Reducing the Costs of Firearm Injuries and Deaths”. 2:15pm
THURSDAY
- The Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee will hold a hearing on the nomination of Eugene Scalia to be Secretary of Labor. 9am
- The House Judiciary Committee will hold an oversight hearing on policing practices. 10am
- The House Budget Committee will hold a hearing titled “Solutions to Rising Economic Inequality”. 10am
- The Joint Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress will hold a hearing titled “Recommendations for Improving the Budget and Appropriations Process: A Look at the Work of the Joint Select Committee”. 10am
