What’s the story?
25 large retail companies - including Costco, Target, and Walmart – are urging President Donald Trump to reconsider imposing tariffs on goods imported from China.
According to reports, the U.S. is planning to slap $60 billion worth of tariffs on Chinese imports to punish Beijing for intellectual property theft.
What are the companies saying?
The letter - which was also signed by Big Lots, Best Buy, and Macy’s – said the planned tariffs would "punish American working families with higher prices on household basics like clothing, shoes, electronics, and home goods."
The retail giants added:
"As you continue to investigate harmful technology and intellectual property practices, we ask that any remedy carefully consider the impact on consumer prices. We must do right by American families while also addressing harmful technology practices."
What do you think?
Should the Trump administration reconsider imposing tariffs on China? Impose lower tariffs? Impose even higher tariffs? Is there another (better) way to punish Beijing for intellectual property theft? Hit Take Action and tell your reps, then share your thoughts below.
