The Senate approved a measure to repeal one of President Obama’s last-minute Executive Orders. The order, which the former president signed just two days before the end of his tenure, required state and local governments to fund women’s health services at low-income clinics, regardless of whether those clinics also provide abortion.
Known as "Title X funding," the Department of Health and Human Services distributes money to state and local governments to support family planning services, pregnancy care, cervical cancer screenings, and other health services for lower-income women and those with no insurance.
Such clinics do not receive funds for abortion services -- direct government funding of abortion is already prohibited by law. Some women’s health clinics though provide abortions separately, paid for privately by their patients, or from donations. The Senate’s vote allows regulators to block payouts for any health services to those clinics.
The final Senate vote on Thursday deadlocked in a tie. Vice President Pence rushed to the Capitol to cast the tie-breaking vote Republicans needed, after two moderate GOP Senators voted against the measure: Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine.
Congress was able to overturn the Obama-era regulation under a new law, The Congressional Review Act (CRA). It allows lawmakers to repeal any regulations finalized within the last 60 legislative days, requiring a simple majority in each chamber and the president’s signature. CRA resolutions also prevent the federal agency that created the regulation from issuing a similar rule without being directed to do so by Congress.
What do you think? How did you Representatives vote!

You don't want to pay for birth control. You don't want to pay for abortion, you don't want to pay for feeding the baby that resulted, you don't want to educate that child, BUT you fully support paying for jailing that person when they grow up in poverty and turn to drug use or crime to survive. AND you use God as your excuse. You should be ashamed if you had any shred of the concern you say you have.
Mr. Lipinski, Ms. Duckworth & Mr. Durban-This is not a vote about your personal beliefs, this is a vote about the beliefs that best serve your constituents. You might be anti abortion, but the fastest way to start stopping abortion is access to birth control, education & female healthcare to poverty level members of the community.
Do your job and support Title X Funding. To do otherwise serves to confirm the suspicion that you have no conscience or concern for the poor and disadvantaged.
When will the GOP realize that if you don't help women take care of themselves and make family planning affordable and convenient, the result is usually not the fairy tail outcome that they perceive. It is society's obligation to help people who can't afford to raise those children who are not planned for.
I don't think my comments to you will make a difference but I'm going to say it anyway! Please hear that the Republican dominated Congress have gutted any taxpayer monies to help women with all of the routine gynecological care that is desperately needed for those living in poverty or just the middle glass because this horrible recession has still not recovered jobs for us. And those available aren't paying a living wage for anyone! Men do not need care your their reproductive system like this. As a result they don't have these kinds of expenses on a regular basis. Women have routine checkups and with such a complex reproductive system we are in there for a lot of non-preventive care. To say nothing of the cost of contraceptive medications. Why are our men and male dominated legislators denying their women and unborn children the care that they desperately need at clinics that charge on a scale by income. If men could find better paying jobs with decent health insurance they can afford this wouldn't be needed. Should women die because men do not put any value on our healthcare needs? It's just a crime what this administration has done and continues to do to good women.
When is the GOP going to end their war against women and the poor.?
Love that Old. White. Men. Some with no idea about what women's reproductive issues are somehow get to decide what choices we are permitted. Bullshit. That's like a bunch of women deciding men's rights about viagra use, and saying no and how to manage their prostate issues.
I Do Not agree with Men forming policy on how WOMEN should manage their reproductive healthcare. To Mr. Cruz, Mr. Conaway, and Mr. Cornyn....you have no earthly idea what it is like to carry a child in your non existing womb for 9 months. You have no idea what it is like to experience the delivery of a child. You have no idea the changes the female reproductive system goes through. Therefore you have no idea how to best manage WOMENS HEALTHCARE!!
WELL LADIES !!!! I THINK ITS HIGH TIME TO VOTE OUT EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN THAT HAS EVER VOTED AGAINST WOMENS ISSUES OF ANY KIND EVER FOR ANY REASON !!!!! ALSO WE NEED TO VOTE DOWN ALL HEALTH BILLS THAT IMPROVE MEN'S HEALTH AND LIBIDO !!!! AND VOTE IN A HEALTH BILL FOR MEN THAT REQUIRES THEIR SPOUSE OR CLOSE FEMAIL RELATIVE TO SIGN PERMISSION FOR THEIR RECEIVING CARE !!!!!!! WOMEN ARE OVER HALF THE POPULATION !! WE CAN DO IT.
If we are going to stop abortions and birth control we need to increase welfare, food stamps, orphanages, Medicaid, housing, foster care....
This is clearly one of the first of many steps to eventually make abortion illegal again. As less than 20% of congress is comprised of women, congress should not be making repealing decisions that jeopardize women's rights. This is seriously sickening.
This is absolutely vile. I don't understand how a group of people who are constantly fighting for "less government" and who use the specter of nameless government officials making medical decisions to Fear monger folks into voting against their own health care can argue that a nameless government body has the Moral Duty to dictate medical procedures for over half of the population. It's ludicrous. This, like so many other bills passed in this congress, is nothing more than a bunch of sycophants kowtowing to their true god, Greed. This bill will kill women and children in far greater numbers & with horrific suffering. It will serve to increase addiction, crime, and poverty. If these people really were interested in helping families & were truly "pro-life" the policies they pass would reflect it in helping to alleviate financial stress, help with affordable child care, put resources & funding into public education, make food accessible to the poorest people in a way that allows them to keep their dignity. Yet, they invariably do just the opposite. If Dante is right about his depiction of the levels of hell, these people will be in the eighth level.
Do not defund women's healthcare facilities.
It seems to me that the Republican controlled Senate has been extremely short sighted when it comes to pulling back much needed funding for women's healthcare. It doesn't seem to register with them that when we as a nation fail to provide much needed health services to our most vulnerable population of women and children, we create a domino effect that can have dire consequences for our country down the road. If a woman can't get access to basic gynecological care, we end up with an increase in rates of cancers and diseases that could have been treated early had it been caught in time. Hospitals end up with patients who cannot pay the cost of treatment, leaving these hospitals to grapple with a financial shortfall. If a woman can't get access to basic prenatal care, we end up with an increase in sickly babies who in turn grow up to be adults with disabling conditions that may have been prevented with good prenatal and early pediatric care. These adults end up costing their states a great deal of money if they are unable to care for themselves and contribute to our nation's workforce. If a woman can't get access to basic contraception, we end up with an increase in children who are neglected, abused or end up in foster care when it's clear that their parents can't handle the financial and emotional responsibilities of raising another human being. But these politicians unfortunately do not think in the long term. And they certainly don't think of the long term impact of these cutbacks because it does not personally affect them or their families. If it did, they would have a very different view of women's healthcare and would act accordingly.
Please support contraception for women who have trouble affording it. It is so hypocritical to deny contraception and then deny abortion. The saddest people in the world are unwanted children.
WOMEN CAN MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS REGARDING THEIR HEALTH AND WHAT THAT ENTAILS. GET OUT OF OUR HOMES!
Womens health is simply nobody's business except the woman herself. I have been trying to calmly and rationally appeal to you but I am utterly baffled at this point. We should work to lower abortions numbers by providing accurate sexual health education and affordable access to birth birth control. Education and birth control IS how we reduce unwanted pregnancies. Refusing to pay doctors for other services simply because they provide abortions when needed is draconian. For the life of me I cannot wrap my head around the cognitive dissonance republicans must be faced with to fight tooth and nail for less government oversight and regulation but then turn around and demand that they be allowed to regulate women's bodies. Overturning rules that protect women's access to care shows just how cruel and mean spirited you are especially since this hurts poor women the most.
Women deserve reproductive care regardless of the various services provided in other areas of the clinic, particularly because the services are legal. You are not the morality police. Leave my health care alone.
This is never an issue with men's healthcare, so stop the assault women's rights!
Please don't take state funding away from these crucial medical needs for women.
