Court Upholds Texas Law Targeting Sanctuary Cities

What’s the story?
A federal appeals court ruled on Tuesday that most of Texas’ ban on so-called "sanctuary cities" can take effect while legal proceedings advance in court.
The law-in-question, Senate Bill 4, allows Texas police officers to ask people their immigration status during routine stops and requires local law enforcement to cooperate with federal immigration officials.
The appeals panel halted one provision of the law: a clause barring local officials from "adopting, enforcing, or endorsing" policies that limit the enforcement of immigration laws.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R) took to twitter to praise the ruling:
BREAKNG: Texas Ban on Sanctuary City Policies upheld by Federal Court of Appeals. Allegations of discrimination were rejected. Law is in effect.

- The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, which represents certain plaintiffs in the S.B. 4 case, said it is watching the situation "closely" as it decides how to move forward:
"The court made clear that we remain free to challenge the manner in which the law is implemented, so we will be monitoring the situation on the ground closely," Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, told the Texas Tribune.
