NSA Director Testifies Admin Isn't Doing Enough About Future Russian Election Interference

by Countable | 2.28.18

What’s the story?

National Security Agency (NSA) Director Adm. Michael S. Rogers testified to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, offering comments that were blunt when possible, and loud in their omissions when classification or custom dictated.

Rogers asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin likely feels he has gotten away pretty cleanly with interference in the Russian election. The Washington Post quoted Rogers as saying, "We’re taking steps, but we’re probably not doing enough…They haven’t paid a price at least that’s sufficient to get them to change their behavior."

He also stated that, though he is leading efforts that fall under his current authority, he hasn’t not been offered by President Trump any additional authority to expand his agency’s efforts to combat future interference:

"I haven’t been granted any, you know, additional authorities, capacity and capability…"

He also testified that, given what he is seeing, future interference is inevitable:

"What I see on the Cyber Command side leads me to believe that if we don’t change the dynamic here, that this is going to continue, and 2016 won’t be viewed as isolated…This is something that will be sustained over time."

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, on Tuesday afternoon, told reporters that "nobody is denying [Rogers] the authority" to do more. She asserted that the president is looking at all of the different causes and all of the different ways that we can prevent it. And as we find different ways that we can do that, we’re implementing them.”

What do you think?

Do you think the NSA should be given greater authority explicitly by the president to combat future Russian election interference? Do you think the administration is doing enough to deal with this threat, or not?

Of course this administration isn’t doing anything about Russia hacking our voting system. That’s how they won in 2016 and that’s basically their only hope in 2018, 2020.

President Trump cannot go against his leader Putin, it will be up to Congress to put this in motion. The president is well aware that this is how he got elected, his concerns are that he needs this meddling to maintain a GOP stronghold. without a GOP stronghold he most likely goes to jail if the Democrats become a stronghold in Congress.

#45 has appointed his WH inner circle with people who don’t have a clue on how to run a government and are more or less bobble heads, giving yeses all around along with kissing his ring in loyalty. When Adm. Rogers, #45’s NSA Director appointee, who has faithfully served in the US military, says we have not done enough to end Russian meddling, #45 will not listen. Instead he will Tweet about some inconsequential matter. We cannot allow the Russians to do it again. We need to be well informed and make sure the news sources we use are reputable. Enough having our votes influenced by social media misinformation. Be informed. Be registered. VOTE!

This discussion is no longer about possible collusion or obstruction. The evidence is plenty, there are guilty pleas already. This is now about saving our democracy. It is abundantly clear that regardless of Donald J Trumps Crimes, he refuses to protect our democracy from a direct attack on its very foundation. It is time to impeach President Trump as he has proven he is impotent against the Russian threat, and refuses to acknowledge its severity.

Disenfranchisement ends freedom. Disenfranchisement establishes a dictatorship. Between tortured gerrymandering and hacking into voting machines our voting rights have been stolen increasingly. We need paper ballots carefully counted with bipartisan oversight and we need to get Russia out of our elections now. We need easy access to voting and an end to purposeful voter suppression of people of color. If we do not resist fascism it will grow until it is too late.

There is nothing more important than keeping our elections honest. Paper ballots cannot be hacked. Voting takes a few minutes. Let people fill out paper ballots by their own hand as a back up when the Russians hack us. Anyone who doesn’t support real controls must want to cheat the elections.

The Trump administration has clearly dropped the ball by doing nothing and allowing Russia to continue sabotaging our democracy, making us a global joke. Pretty obvious his motivation...they meddled for his own win in the 2016 election. Push for strong sanctions against Russia. Speak up and demand that action be taken. Give the NSA more authority. Do your damn job for once.

I would like the scope of the Russian investigation expanded to include a granular analysis of the events and circumstances that have led up to the both the Las Vegas Massacre and the Valentines' Day Massacre. I find the timing of both of these tragic losses of American lives to be highly suspicious and in need of further examination for possible contributing factors.

Russian interference in the USA Election process is untenable and must be stopped immediately. What is Congress doing to ensure this never happens again?

All I want is valid elections that are free from foreign or domestic interference. No political party, foreign actors, or those here illegally or legally but not allowed to vote, participating or manipulating our elections. Both parties have either failed in this, and either are incompetent or willing to use those means to steal the Voice of the People. Both the current and past administration have known it is possible yet denied it so I can only believe they plan to act illegally. There are plenty of methods to ensure one vote one person and keep it valid. Block chain, multi factor authentication, and proof of citizenship would fix any tampering or illegal voting - why are we not applying these common sense solutions to our situation? Don’t our elected representatives want this?
