Summertime is Connection Time and the Effort is Worth It!
By: Dr. David Gobble
When we were growing up, we experienced summer as a time to play, have fun and get together with our family and friends. What we took for granted when we were younger - a rich social life full of family and friends – does not have to be a thing of the past. Little did we know that these activities would be proven by social scientists and epidemiologists (experts in disease and health in populations) to support good health and a long life.
What is your special summer memory? Each of us has a warm place in our heart for a person, a place or family outing. These memories keep us connected and make us secure in our world. We have the same need today, and this summer is no different. Think how you can re-create your sense of summer memories through activities such as reunions, picnics, block parties, concerts, art tours, community service activities and fundraising events.
Finally, if you are more of a joiner than a planner then be sure you take advantage of every offer that comes your way this summer. Meeting new people and staying connected with family and friends will boost your immune system, improve your attitude and enrich your life.
