Border Agents Arrest More Than 1,000 Migrants in Record Roundup
Should Congress provide additional funds for border agents?
What’s the story?
- More than 1,000 unauthorized immigrants were apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents Wednesday after they illegally tried to enter the country.
- "The apprehension of 1,036 individuals in a single group – the largest group ever encountered by Border Patrol agents – demonstrates the severity of the border security and humanitarian crisis at our Southwest border," said CBP Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez.
- President Donald Trump praised the work of CBP agents in a tweet Thursday:
"The dedicated men and women of CBP, and in particular the U.S Border Patrol, are doing their very best every day to address the influx of family units and unaccompanied children."
- Later in the day, Trump announced that that beginning June 10, the U.S. will impose a 5% tariff on all goods from Mexico until the “Illegal Immigration problem is remedied.”
What do you think?
Do you support the tariffs? Should Congress provide more funds to CBP? Should Trump close the border, as he’s previously threatened? Take action and tell your reps, then share your thoughts below.
