This Week in Congress: Protecting the CFPB, Bipartisan Retirement Reforms, and Judicial Nominations

How do you feel about this week's congressional agenda?

Partisan fights over the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and judicial nominations will highlight the week ahead in the Capitol, although a retirement reform bill and a possible compromise over disaster relief give lawmakers a chance to go into next week’s recess with some bipartisan accomplishments.

The House starts its week Monday with votes on six foreign policy bills and a bill to prevent child abuse of children who are affected by the opioid epidemic. The rest of the week will include votes on several veterans affairs bills, but will be primarily focused on a bill to reverse the Trump administration’s reforms to the CFPB and a bipartisan bill to expand opportunities for Americans to save for retirement.

The Senate will convene on Monday for a procedural vote on the nomination of Daniel Collins to be a U.S. circuit judge on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which could set up a confirmation vote as early as Tuesday if it succeeds. The rest of the week is expected to include votes on the nomination of federal judges to districts in Utah, Missouri, the District of Columbia, and North Carolina. The Senate may also vote on disaster relief legislation.
