VP Pence & Speaker Ryan Push Healthcare Reform and More In Politics Today

by Countable | 3.20.17

It’s difficult to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in this country and to break through the clutter, so we’re here to make it easier. Here’s what we at Countable are reading today:

1. "Vice President Mike Pence, Paul Ryan push health care overhaul in Janesville"

"Vice President Mike Pence spoke here Friday alongside other top Republicans to unite his party around a replacement of Obamacare — a challenge that could define the presidency of Donald Trump."

"With both conservative and moderate Republicans shaky on the plan, Pence sought to shore up support by heading to the hometown of House Speaker Paul Ryan to visit headquarters for a chain of farm supply stores. It was a clear signal that the White House wants other Republicans to fall in line behind the House leadership's plans to replace the Affordable Care Act."

2. "Trump tours private school in Florida, promoting choice"

"President Donald Trump toured a private religious school in Florida on Friday, praising it as an ideal institution for "disadvantaged children" while re-emphasizing that his education agenda will focus on school choice."

"Trump visited St. Andrew Catholic School in Orlando, dropping in on a fourth-grade classroom and shaking hands with students who said they were learning about the history of Florida. When one girl said she wanted to own her own business, he said with a smile that she's "gonna make a lot of money. But don't run for politics.""

3. "Trump prods Schumer, Pelosi over old Russian meetings; Schumer says he’ll ‘happily’ talk it over"

"President Donald Trump lashed out at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Friday, who has called for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign over the uproar about his contacts with Russians."

"Trump tweeted a photo of the Democratic senator from New York and Russian President Vladimir Putin laughing and holding Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Trump said "we should start an immediate investigation" into Schumer's ties with Russia, calling him a "total hypocrite." He did not accuse Schumer of any specific wrongdoing."

4. "Yellen indicates Fed likely to hike interest rates this month"

"Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen signaled Friday that the Fed will likely resume raising interest rates later this month to reflect a strengthening job market and inflation edging toward the central bank’s 2 percent target rate."

"Yellen also said in a speech at the Executives Club of Chicago that the Fed expects steady economic improvement to justify additional rate increases. While not specifying how many rate hikes could occur this year, Yellen noted that Fed officials in December had estimated that there would be three in 2017."

5. "Fired reporter accused of threatening some Jewish centers, cyber-stalking"

"A former reporter who was fired for fabricating sources was arrested Friday and accused of making some of the bomb threats against Jewish institutions that have so rattled Jews recently."

"Juan Thompson, 31, was charged with one count of cyber-stalking for making at least eight threats as part of an attempt to intimidate a particular person after their romantic relationship ended, according to a criminal complaint filed in the Southern District of New York."

Well gee, I heard 45 in an interview say everyone would be covered and have wonderful coverage. What happed to that? Ohhhhh, not so easy. Well let's just look around, shall we? There are plenty of other countries out there to use as models. So? Now I get it, y'all are afraid to cut out your buddies that make big money in the insurance industry. It's more important for you to keep that lobbying money coming. To keep big pharma happy. To get reelected. Make ACA a single payer plan. If you want better than what ACA has, buy an additional plan- a Medigap plan, or buy a primo plan through your workplace. Whatever, but stop screwing around before we all have to learn the Russian National Anthem!

All the Trump's men won't be able to put health care together again. They don't care about the poor or low income Americans with serious health issues. Why don't they give the common man the same health care that Congress gets. The hypocrites!

How can I say this gently? SINGLE PAYER! Nothing but. End of conversation! School choice? Choose to educate all children according to their strengths and aptitudes with a well funded public system. The wealthy can be educated in the ivory towers.

Do not repeal the ACA, quit trying to blame everything on the Clintons and Obama as if you had no hand in what is going on! Hold yourself accountable and quit pointing distracting fingers!

My only consolation in this travesty is knowing what goes around comes around. May you forever know the pain and tragedy you inflict upon your constituents by repealing the ACA and replacing it with a plan that will never extend the coverage it did. There's a special place in hell for those who do this! Remember 2018!

We need affordable healthcare and should not pick apart the ACA unless there is something reliable that we can count on to replace it. Reliable would be universal coverage that is affordable and covers everyone as POTUS has said he would support.

Neither one of these guys knows what the people really want. They only hear themselves. Ryan won't go home to listen to his electorate and pence is so out of touch he doesn't see his email the same as Hillary's.

First let me start by saying there is no such thing as Obamacare as representatives of the government you should at least use the proper title ACA. Secondly you can continue to spin your tales and your lies but the truth is the only thing that's wrong with the ACA is that it is in the hands of private for-profit insurance companies.30 million people including children rely on having this coverage.....you're not going to take it away so you're not repealing and replacing anything you are tweaking our existing system.

I'm concerned about the repeal and replace healthcare coverage that is being proposed. Please do not vote for any replacement that does not provide the same comprehensive coverage, at a minimum, for an individual or family that is currently provided by the Affordable Health Care Act. Allowing/ voting for substandard health care plans just because they are cheaper would be a great disservice to the constitutes you serve!

Keep ACA. Citizens depend on the ACA. Please keep ACA as it is. Over time look for ways to improve it.

DO NOT REPEAL ACA!!! Tweak it. Opening state boarders to competition might an answer, Trump recommended this. Allow Medicare to be a public option, to those under 65, on an actuarial fee basis in competition with private carriers. Require all to carry a full year of insurance by either a new penalty (stick) reported to IRS by insurance companies or a tax refund or insurance company rebate (carrot) mitigating those individuals that cheat by using a loophole and canceling their last three months. The carrot could be funded by initial overcharge for 9 months and refund. There are probably plenty of ideas that a facilitated group of insurance providers and users, drug companies, healthcare providers, elected and government officials could come up with.

All the pushing in Healthcare reform is not going to lay to rest Russiangate. We need Pence to explain his use of a private server after his outrage of others doing the same. We need Session to resign. He is tainted and will never regain even the minimal credibility with which he entered office. We need trump's taxes. We need Ross to explain his connections and activities with the Russian money laundering schemes at the Bank of Cyprus. American are not going to let this rest.
