Before bills and nominations are brought up for a passage vote in Congress, they typically have to be considered and approved by relevant committees ― which also conduct oversight of federal agencies. Here’s a look at what Congressional committees will be holding hearings on this week.

TUESDAY
- The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing to receive testimony on two bills to achieve mineral security. 10am
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “5G: National Security Concerns, Intellectual Property Issues, and the Impact on Competition and Innovation”. 10am
- The Senate Finance Committee will hold a hearing titled “Challenges in the Retirement System”. 10:15am
- The Senate Budget Committee will hold a hearing titled “Fixing a Broken Budget and Spending Process: Perspectives of Two Former Chairmen”. 2:30pm
WEDNESDAY
- The Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing to conduct oversight of financial regulators. 9:30am
- The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Executive Privilege and Congressional Oversight”. 10am
- The House Ways & Means Committee will hold a hearing titled “The Economic and Health Consequences of Climate Change”. 10am
- The House Budget Committee will hold a hearing titled “Keeping Our Promise to America’s Seniors: Retirement Security in the 21st Century”. 10am
- The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing titled “The Future of Arms Controls Post-Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty”. 10:15am
THURSDAY
- The House Intelligence Committee will hold an open hearing titled “China’s Digital Authoritarianism: Surveillance, Influence, and Political Control”. 9am
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on two election security bills. 10am
- The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing to receive testimony on a carbon capture bill and conduct oversight of carbon capture programs. 10am
- The House Oversight Committee will hold a hearing titled “HIV Prevention Drug: Billions in Corporate Profits after Millions in Taxpayer Investments”. 10am
- The House Science, Space and Technology Committee will hold a hearing titled “Event Horizon Telescope: The Black Hole Seen Round the World”. 10am
- The House Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing titled “Overcoming Racial Disparities and Social Determinants in the Maternal Mortality Crisis”. 10am
- The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold confirmation hearings for ambassadors to the Slovak Republic, Sweden, and Turkmenistan. 2:30pm
