President Trump is a billionaire, by all accounts. He is not in need of the $400,000 a year salary paid to presidents, and committed to donating his salary on a quarterly basis to the federal government. So, where is that money going?
Tuesday, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao announced that President Trump is donating his fourth quarter salary, or $100,000, to help fund a new grant program focused on infrastructure projects, reports the Washington Post. The Infrastructure for Building America program will reward state and local governments that have raised their own funds before asking for federal help.
Overall, the program is expected, according to President Trump’s infrastructure plan, to give away $1.5 billion, with the rest supplied by state and local taxpayers.
In the first three quarters of the fiscal year, President Trump donated his salary to the National Parks Service, the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services.
The Park Service money will be used for improvements at Antietam National Battlefield. The other two donations were for programs, like the Transportation Department grant program, that don’t yet exist.
The Education Department will combine the president’s donation with other funds to start a science camp. The Health and Human Services Department will combine the president’s donation with other funds to initiate an opioid-awareness program.
Is President Trump donating his salary the right thing to do? Do you think his choices of what to donate to are good choices? Where in the federal government would you like to see him donate his salary in FY2019?

That 400k is nothing compared to his bullshit travel expenses were all paying for. This traffic cone with a toupee needs to piss off real soon.
The worst part of this is that he is receiving a salary to donate.....if you get my meaning.
How about he applies the $400,000 to the cost of his frequent field trips to the golf course.
Personally I would be fine with him keeping his salary, as long as he pays the taxes he owes.
Donating some money to causes that don’t even exist, yet?...and giving to parks that he plans to drill on? WTF?
Really is anyone going to believe this? This coming from the daily lair. If true follow the money let’s see the tax return. If he’s given it away prove it otherwise I don’t believe it? Watch the bouncing ball while I pick your pockets
I remember when you had to work to earn your pay ~ not sitting around watching absurd reality TV (Fox News), and being a coward cyber bully! We only have his own word that he is a billionaire and we know how much his word is worth. What #45 should do is pay to sustain security for his two residences and air travel to those residences. That would be a real donation.
This seems like a giant tax loophole. Bottom line is his could give not one single care about anything other than himself. So, it’s always going to be a game to try and bolster his image and hide his money (if he actually has any). Also donating to government agencies and programs that don’t actually exist is completely suspicious. Not to mention the dolts that run those departments are so corrupt I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets funneled back to him somehow. Finally if he’s really against domestic violence like he said today he should create a battered women’s legal defense fund. But he won’t.
He knew he was going to screw the tax payers with his constant trips to Maralago, that he was going to reap the harvest a million fold, his salary is a pittance & was to fool his idiotic base, who would always remember he donated his salary, rather than he F'd them over with his constant golfing trips, coming out of their taxes
Having these donations confirmed by either DJT or his corrupt cabinet members does not make them true, especially if they are being donated to programs that do not yet exist. Setting up a fund for infrastructure programs he expects the states to pay for is ludicrous. I already pay transportation taxes in CO to our Regional Transportation District and that money was used to build a TOLL road, now owned by a foreign entity, that I do not use because of the high toll rates. I also pay taxes on the gasoline fueling my automobile that ostensibly go toward road improvements and maintenance of the Interstate Highway system. Has anyone in Congress driven on I70 or I80 lately? The roads are in horrible shape out here in the west. It is a sad state of affairs when the American public requires PROOF from the president to back up any claim he makes, but that is where we are with DJT. As John McCain put it so eloquently, PUTIN WINS.
By the way, the amount of his salary is a drop in the bucket compared to what he's cost the taxpayers every time he jets off to FL, or New Jersey to golf and smooze his rich cronies... Gotta get those campaign coffers full for the next election..
@Dana I appreciate your point of view, and even as a liberal, I agreed with Trump. That was until I saw the comments about the expensive golfing he does each weekend that is up to 5 times more expensive than his entire year's salary. You say at the end that the world would be more peaceful if we respected one another but then turn to bash on liberals and grouping us all into this "hypersensitive and overly negative" stereotype. I am curious to hear your point of view on the golfing and if/how that changes your point of view on the subject. I think it was noble of Trump to donate that money (specifically to those departments), but the expensive golfing outweighs that nobility by almost 250 times as much. As in the literal cost of the golfing is 250 times as expensive as his yearly salary. Please recognize that there are two sides to the argument, and grouping us into that negative light is just the quick, harsh, judgement you condemned us for in the same comment. I'd love to work together, and not push one another away. Thank you for speaking up and sharing your political opinion.
And 1 2 3, here we go with the negative comments by the libs. He is donating his money the way he sees fit. Maybe the programs don’t exist yet but he will start up these programs with donating his presidential salary. He could start these programs with tax payer money. Or he has every right to just keep it. What does it matter if he gets a tax break from the donations. Have any of you libs donated to charity and gotten a tax deduction? Y’all are so quick to judge. It would be a much more peaceful Planet Earth if we would not judge each other and listen and respect each other. I know we are only human but a little goes a long way.
Frankly, my guess on all this is that he is using the ploy of donating his salary to take charitable tax deductions on his other income. Thereby reducing his overall tax by about the same amount etc. if this is not true, he can release his taxes to refute it.
I wonder if it is donated to his attorney to pay off more assaulted women.
Out of 45 presidents, how many presidents do you know that have donated their salary? Three. Hoover, Kennedy and Trump. Some go in rich. Some come out rich. And not from their salary of $400,000 annually. (It was $25,000 for George Washington.) Nancy Pelosi would call this “crumbs.” Book deals, speaking engagements, etc. make them rich, for example Bill Clinton’s speech in Russia for $500,000. The Clintons were “broke” when they exited the White House. They even took the silverware which they had to return. Clintons are now worth over $250M. How’d that happen? And speaking of Nancy Pelosi, she has three luxury homes in CA and is worth over $195M. She also tried to get a tax break on her three homes with the new tax reform. Do you liberals really think people like Pelosi and Clintons have your best interests at heart? I wonder if they’ve ever donated their salaries. God knows they could afford it.
To the Hypocrites, those who fault him for his trips, those who fault him for donating his money, those who criticize him donating his earned money and those who say he doesn’t pay taxes, you all must not have a brain. With the IRS laws in place, if he committed tax fraud in any of his years, the IRS would have been glad to bring him down, especially under the Obama administration. But guess what, even if he was able to avoid paying taxes he obviously did it legally, so get off your high horse and deal with it. He obviously did not break any laws because he has never been charged for tax evasion or tax fraud. Everyone of you whiners who, complain about Trump, I bet you have never complained about Obama’s illegal activity’s, his illegal use of the FBI, NSA, CIA, DOJ, and IRS. It shows your bias and hypocrisy. It’s sad. At least Trump is keeping his campaign promises. Something the Americans haven’t seen in a long time. Both sides want him gone, if you think about it, that is a plus. Look at the realization that no politician truly likes him, because he is for the People and not for the politicians.
It’s not like he’s not getting paid. He got paid from the tax bill (spectacularly egregious)!!! I’m all for tax cuts, but the timing and targets are just all wrong, unless it was written for you and you happen to be president. #VoteDemocratDownTheBallot2018&2020
Trump could do us all a favor, a " biggly" favor by paying his own way. 400k is only covering his service tip fee's.
Mr Trump takes his salary and announces it as a donation. He’s no altruist...when you publicize your giving it’s just PR. JFK gave both his Congressional and Presidential salary to charity...Herbert Hoover gave his salary to charity, and he supplemented his staffs salary. Mr Trump’s giving is about as altruistic as his now defunct Trump Foundation.
