House Committee to Consider Resolution on Trump Conflicts of Interest

by Countable | 3.20.17

The House Judiciary Committee will meet Tuesday morning at 10:15 ET to consider a resolution of inquiry sponsored by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) that requests information from the Dept. of Justice (DOJ) related to investigations into alleged ties between President Donald Trump or his associates and Russia and any conflicts of interest created by Trump’s businesses. (You can tune in below.)

A resolution of inquiry is an obscure parliamentary procedure that allows a lawmaker in the House to request information from the executive branch. If the committee that handles the resolution doesn’t take action within 14 legislative days the lawmaker can bring it up for a vote on the House floor. The committee can choose to report the resolution favorably to the House floor so it can get a vote before the full chamber, reject it, revise it, or do nothing. And rejecting a resolution of inquiry doesn’t always mean lawmakers disagree with its premise, as it could mean that they got what they asked the executive branch for and no more action is needed.

House Republicans, eager to avoid a distraction that diverts attention from their legislative agenda, will likely reject the resolution when the Judiciary Committee meets. For Congressman Nadler and those sympathetic to his inquiry, they can only hope to persuade enough of the committee’s 23 Republicans to join all or most of its 17 Democrats in supporting it.

You can vote on Rep. Nadler’s resolution of inquiry and tell your rep what you think of it.

How is it possible that this is even a question? This is potentially bigger than Watergate. Collusion with a hostile foreign power. Anyone of our representatives even questioning the importance of this, is coming awfully close to, if not crossing over the line into treason. Please don't tow the party line, and throw our constitution by the wayside. We are talking about the country we love. Do you love it too?

Hold elected officials accountable- any conflicts of interest are unethical and must be reprimanded

I know that you will do the right thing and vote to create an independent bipartisan committee to investigate Trumps finances.

Please investigate Trump's conflict of interest in regards to his dealings internationally. Also I believe he broke the law when he advertised his daughter's clothing line on POTUS twitter. And I believe they were warned after Ivanka's bracelet was advertised after her 60 Minutes interview. Also The First Lady was reprimanded for advertising her line on the White House page. This has to stop. Also two sons are traveling around the world and receiving US $ security $ while advancing profit advantages for POTUS, who did not divest his business accounts, place in trust or release his tax returns. This must be investigated.

The American public is entitled to know the truth of Trumps ties to Russia. An independent investigation is imperative. Our democratic process and perception of our democracy is at stake.

Refusing to support an inquiry into conflicts of interest of any president is complacency at the least and conspiracy if not done. What are you as part of the majority party afraid of ? Remember you are employees of the US citizens and history has its eyes on you.

Trump's many conflicts of interest need to be investigated thoroughly and with scrutiny. We don't even know the extent of them; how can we be sure his policies are in the interest of the country over his own personal gain? Taxpayers are already footing an enormous bill for his lifestyle. We deserve the truth.

Please, for the love of god, just investigate the relationship between President Trump and his aides to Russia. Benghazi was investigated for at least 3 or 4 years. This can't just be thrown under the rug. Maybe it's nothing, maybe it's something. Why don't you do your job Jody Hice; do the right thing. DO the RIGHT thing. DO THE RIGHT THING!

This should be a nonpartisan concern of the highest magnitude. We MUST find out what and how any interference occurred in order to safeguard against it happening again in the future! We cannot bury our heads in the sand and pretend it did not happen. Our democracy needs to be supported by all parties!

Leadership includes putting the interests of others above self-interests. Trump wants to be a leader and this is a great way to start. Transparency allows the world to understand whose interests are truly guiding decisions...and should be a non-issue.

Regardless of party affiliations the public must know any and all conflicts of interest for presidents and key staff. Trump has not been transparent regarding his business dealings and communications with Russia. These issues must be brought to light - knowledge and transparency are the foundation for democracy. This is an issue that should garner broad support - people before party lines.

The American people deserve answers to this question!!! I urge my Representatives to affirm this bill and to urge their Republican counterparts to support this. Because the majority of the American people want the truth and we deserve the truth!!!!!!. If the president would simply release his taxes which he has promised to do on more than one occasion we would be able to see if there are any connections to Russia or any other foreign/hostile power. It's pretty simple really if President Trump has nothing to hide then release your TAXES and prove it

We need to know the full extent of the conflicts of interest Trumps businesses and children doing business for him while holding government positions. The fact that we are shelling out tax payer money for business trips one month into his presidency should be more than enough reason to look further.

Require tax returns be examined. All information leads one to believe there are questions that need to be examined. The confidence in the integrity of our government is beginning to erode.
