Tillerson Warns of Russian Meddling in 2018 Midterms

What’s the story?
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Tuesday that Russia is already meddling in the 2018 midterm elections and has "a lot of different tools" at its disposal.
"I don't know that I would say we are better prepared," Tillerson told Fox News, “because the Russians will adapt as well.”
Why does it matter?
Speaking to Fox News, Tillerson said:
"The point is that if their intention is to interfere, they're going to find ways to do that. I think it's important we just continue to say to Russia, ‘Look, you think we don't see what you're doing. We do see it, and you need to stop. If you don't, you're going to just continue to invite consequences for yourself.’"
Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate intelligence committee, reinforced Tillerson’s comments, telling NPR:
"The Russian effort to undermine our democracy did not end with Election Day in 2016—these tools, whether creation of fake accounts, or the use of automated bots, continues on an ongoing basis."
Last month, the Trump administration notified Congress that it wouldn’t enact new sanctions against Russia for interfering in the 2016 presidential election.
