West Virginians, Tell Joe Manchin to Support The Equality Act

Call on Manchin to support 58,000 LGBTQ West Virginians living without discrimination protections

by GLAAD | 3.18.19

There’s one BIG name missing as co-sponsor of the Equality Act: U.S. Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

Under the Equality Act, LGBTQ people would have guaranteed, across-the-board protections in their everyday lives. A person’s sexual orientation or gender identity would be added as a protected class that would prevent any form of discrimination at the workplace, at home, or any other public venue – such as a pharmacy or school.

About 63% of West Virginians support adding nondiscrimination protections for the 58,000 LGBTQ people in the state, and yet, Senator Manchin remains silent.

With transgender students being targeted in his state, Manchin’s support for the Equality Act could send a much-needed statement to West Virginians that all people – regardless of who you are or love – are welcome in the state.

Contact the Senator's office and tell Joe Manchin to support and sign on as co-sponsor for the Equality Act!
