Lindsey Graham: Don’t Release Mueller Report Without Setting Up Special Counsel Probe Into Hillary’s Emails – Do You Agree?
Should the Mueller report only be made public after a probe into the DOJ?
What’s the story?
- Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) blocked a resolution calling for special counsel Robert Mueller’s report to be made public after it unanimously passed the House.
- The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman requested that Democrats add an amendment calling on the Department of Justice to appoint a special counsel to investigate DOJ misconduct in its handling of the 2016 investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and Carter Page Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act applications.
- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had asked for a unanimous consent decree for the nonbinding resolution before the Senate left town for a weeklong recess. Under Senate rules, a single senator can try to pass or set up a vote on a bill, resolution, or nomination. Likewise, a single senator can block that request.
What did Graham say?
- Graham, a close ally of Trump, argued that “any American out there who did what Secretary Clinton did, you'd be in jail now. The question I want to know is, does anybody other than me believe that?”
“We let Mueller look at all things Trump related to collusion and otherwise. Somebody needs to look at what happened on the other side and find out if the FBI and the DOJ had two systems, one supporting the person they wanted to win and one out to get the person they wanted to lose.”
- Schumer responded that Graham’s argument echoed Trump’s frequent talking points attacking the Mueller probe and DOJ.
- “This amendment appears to be a pretext for blocking this very simple, noncontroversial resolution,” said Schumer. “I have absolutely no idea why a member of this body would object to this basic level of transparency whatever their concern on other issues.”
What do you think?
Do you agree Graham? Should Congress only pass a resolution releasing the Mueller report if the DOJ also investigates Hillary Clinton’s emails and Carter Page’s FOISA application? Take action and tell your reps, then share your thoughts below.
