The DC: 🤔 Are you politically prejudiced? and... Should Trump pardon Paul Manafort?

by Countable | 3.14.19

Welcome to March 14, left, rights, and centers...

Are you politically prejudiced?

Your answers were divided almost equally across all possible responses:

We asked the question in concert with a story on recent research into to the most and least politically open-minded counties in the U.S. The findings provided a fascinating guide into the geography of partisan prejudice across the country.

Nationwide, the research found Suffolk County, Massachusetts (which includes Boston) to be the most politically intolerant county. The counties most accepting of political differences? Randolph, Onslow, and Davidson counties in North Carolina and North Country in New York.

The study also found that older respondents and people living in or near large cities “seem to be more likely to stereotype and disdain people who disagree with them politically.”

Are you politically prejudiced?

On the Radar

  • Paul Manafort's full sentence is now 7.5 years, after D.C. federal court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ordered Manafort to serve an additional 43 months in prison, on top of the sentence he received last week from a court in Virginia. “It is hard to overstate the number of lies and the amount of fraud and the amount of money involved,” Jackson said, listing Manafort's various offenses. “There is no question that this defendant knew better and he knew what he was doing.” Do you support a pardon for Manafort?

  • President Trump has signed an executive order to ground the Boeing 737 Max 8 planes that were involved in two recent crashes. "Those planes are grounded effective immediately," Trump told reporters. "Safety is our paramount concern." The FAA had faced growing criticism for backing the jetliner, which was involved in a deadly crash over the weekend and another in October. Boeing reiterated Tuesday that it continued to have faith in its airplanes and saw no reason for a grounding: “Safety is Boeing’s number one priority and we have full confidence in the safety of the 737 Max. We understand that regulatory agencies and customers have made decisions that they believe are most appropriate for their home markets." Do you support grounding the Boeing 737 Max 8?

Under the Radar

  • Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is again promoting the idea that robots who replace human workers should be taxed as if they were alive. “Right now, the human worker who does, say, $50,000 worth of work in a factory, that income is taxed and you get income tax, social security tax, all those things,” Gates told The Verge. “If a robot comes in to do the same thing, you’d think that we’d tax the robot at a similar level.” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) agrees with “distributing wealth created by automation.” The freshman rep told an audience at South by Southwest festival this weekend that “what [Gates is] really talking about is taxing corporations. But it’s easier to say: ‘tax a robot.'” Do you support a tax on robots?

But wait, there's more!

And, in the End…

Actors, wealthy parents, elite college coaches, and college-prep executives are accused of bribing sports coaches and administrators to get students admitted to institutions like Stanford, Yale, Georgetown, and USC—regardless of academic or athletic ability.

Now, some lawmakers are calling for investigations into college admissions.

Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) told CNN he was “pissed off and appalled” by the scandal, tweeting:

"I worked 2 jobs and went to a #CommunityCollege so I could go to @UCLA and the @Kennedy_School. How many kids who share my story were robbed of THEIR opportunity by parents who bribed their way through the system?"

Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) tweeted that this was exactly why he introduced the REDUCE ACT: "We must require colleges to disclose legacy students and students of MEGA-donors in yearly reports."

Should Congress investigate the college admissions system?

In a sense yes I have become politically prejudiced. The reason being is because there are two political parties and no one works together for the betterment of America. One party will not work with the president and the other party is lacking common sense. There is NO bipartisan support to reach common ground on the serious issues of immigration, gun control, etc. It is one sided and one sided only!! One solution is worse than the other!! TERM LIMITS!!!

I never use to be politically prejudiced. In fact, I have always split my vote and until this last election had voted an equal number of times for Republicans as Democrats. The lies and horrific decisions being made by this administration and the fact that Republicans continue to support Trump and do not call out the lies, conflict of interests and incompetency mean that I would be hard pressed to EVER vote Republican again! You, my Senators, took an oath to defend our country against all enemies both foreign and domestic. Given the number of indictments associated with this administration, that should give you enough reason to question and not blindly support his/this agenda! NO PARDON!

If politically prejudiced means that I believe any type of abortion is murder, socialized healthcare is taking advantage of individuals and a potentially break people financially, and that I don’t want children taught in schools to question their gender; then yes, I am politically prejudiced. There is no way my morals and integrity will change on the above counts as well as on other issues. Others can choose certain lifestyles but there is no way it should be forced on others.

Yes I am and always will be prejudice against Communists because they destroy Freedom and Liberty to enslave the people under an oppressive big government like today’s Democrats have become! And YES President Trump should pardon Manafort because Mueller’s witch hunt to attack those connected to President Trump is shameful and slanderous the one that should be tried and thrown in prison is the evil Clinton crime family puppet Robert Mueller! Mueller and these DEMONcrats have attacked OUR President from day one of him taking office just because he beat that corrupt wicked witch Hillary Clinton who should be the one tried, convicted and thrown in prison with the Spy Gate, community agitating, Muslim Brotherhood terrorist Barack Obama and HIS Treasonous administration...........it appears our country is gone hijacked by the leftist, Commie, mafioso scum!!!!

Trump should be impeached, his policies and decisions should be rolled back, and judicial picks should be nullified. It is blatantly obvious that he does not possess or practice good judgement, and the American people should not be made to suffer for that.

Not impressed with either party, but the GOP Congress is spineless. If Trump pardons that convicted felon, it only adds to everyone’s belief of what a slimy creep the mob boss is.

Trump should not pardon his campaign staff. If they committed any crimes, they need to be held accountable and jailed.

No, I have friends on both sides of the isle... What I am prejudice against is people being brainwashed by the news without being a freethinker. So many people just believe the lies CNN tell and never do their own look to see how blatantly obvious it is that they are nothing more than propaganda machines.

I believe President Trump should pardon everyone of those individuals that have been charged. I’m not saying what they did was right but what I am saying is this investigation started to find Russian collusion between the Russians and the Trump campaign so far there hasn’t been any to corroborate that there was an Collusion. They use this so-called collusion with Russia to tear down and destroy people that were associated with President Trump and in my opinion that is not how the justice system works. As a law-enforcement officer it discussed me to see our Judicial system is being used by the Democrats and other because they have such a hate for President Trump and they want to tear this great nation apart. And if you can’t see that and realize that then you need to get your head out of the sand. MAGA Trump 2020
