Today, a Federal Appeals Court in San Francisco hears oral arguments from the Justice Department defending President Donald Trump’s ban on travel from seven Muslim-majority countries. Attorneys for the states of Washington and Minnesota will argue against the ban.
The travel ban is not currently being enforced; a federal judge imposed a temporary restraining order last Friday, and the Appeals Court denied a Justice Department emergency request to reverse the order.
The administration argues that the restraining order "threatens national security and disregards presidential authority," and it is demanding the immediate reinstatement of the travel ban. Those in opposed to it say it would once again unleash chaos by splitting families, stranding residents and disrupting travel.
As the White House makes its case, opponents of the President’s Order are watching carefully. Thousands of people protested the ban at airports across the nation.

Meanwhile, travelers from the affected countries will get at least one more day to enter the country. It appears a near certainty that whatever the ruling from the San Francisco-based Appeals Court, the next theater for this heated battle will be the U.S. Supreme Court.
Oral arguments in the case of State of Washington and State of Minnesota v. Donald J. Trump can be heard via live audio stream through the court's website beginning at 3 p.m. PST (6 p.m. EST) and are expected to last about an hour.

This travel ban is repulsively embarrassing for the United States. I'm so thankful to live here....but I couldn't be less proud to be an American right now. PLEASE MAKE THIS INSANITY END.
There have been exactly zero terrorist attacks from the immigrants from those countries listed on the travel ban in the last 15 years. This ban is not a question of security. It is a question of religious freedom and racism. Being from an islamic country does not make someone a terrorist. This ban is a ridiculous waste of time and money and must be overturned immediately. Freedom of religion is to apply to ALL religions, not just Christians. We CANNOT deny people entry based on faith alone and still claim to be a democracy which follows our constitution. All people were created equal and deserve respect. This ban must be overturned immediately!
The real terrorists are already here. Most mass killings in this country have been carried out by white males with a gun. So the terrorists to worry about are somewhere already in the country and are citizens. Trump how are you going to ban them?
Please do not let this great country stoop to the low level of our fraudulent and illegitimate president.
The facts are simple- more mass violence has been committed in this country by white males then by any other demographic on this planet. If the government wants to make America safe they would limit people's access to tools of violence. This is a divisive move to make it seem like America is great, like the problem isn't internal. If you want to make America safe we would be practicing peaceful and positive global engagement. Instead our government is perpetuating systems of oppression, fear, and bigotry. If we are truly the greatest nation in the world we would lead by example and face the hard truths that haunt us all. Take responsibility for our actions so that we can move through them, learn from them, and grow from them.
This is clearly religious discrimination, no matter how it's made to seem otherwise, and is also obviously relegated to leave Trump's business interests protected. This ban is no good and should be tossed out. Do everything you can to fight against this and surely the rest of discrimination that pours out of this administration.
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door." That's what this country is supposed to be about. If you destroy this you destroy the fabric this nation is woven upon.
We have more of a chance of getting killed by so-called Christians in this country than getting killed by refugees. Refugees haven't killed anyone because we already have a vetting process. This travel ban is pointless and discriminatory.
This ban is in Un-American and has no place in our country. These countries that are being banned have literally never attacked us nor have their citizens. For this ban to continue is a disgrace and an embarrassment.
Please resist this administration's efforts to isolate our country. They are attempting to destroy the social progress and inclusiveness many of us have fought so long and hard to secure for our less fortunate brothers and sisters. We have laws already in place that require adequate vetting of refuges. The fear tactics got them into office. We must stay strong, be fearless and make it a quick exit. Thank you.
I support the AGs from Washington and Minnesota. I do not believe this thinly veiled Muslim ban is constitutional nor humane. Furthermore, the executive order lacks any evidence that this for security and very obviously excludes countries where the president has a financial stake in.
Trumps Muslim ban fails as a safety measure, but more importantly it is a massive moral failure. It is not representative of the ideals of the founding principles of this country or the principles of its citizens today. Stop the ban. Save the land of the free.
Can we ban Trump?
Please ban Trump from the United States. Not worried about refugees.
This ban is repulsive and blatantly anti-Muslim. There has not been a terrorist attack on American soil from ANY of the countries listed on the ban. This is not about stopping terrorists. This is pure hatred.
Steve Bannon's ban is creating more radical extremists and helping ISIS recruit. Everyone in the world can see this. If the judicial checks fail, Congress needs to step up. 3 branches of government, people. And, hectord, Obama's 2011 was not a ban. It was a slowdown to institute stronger vetting, and did NOT include refugees."
I oppose Trump's travel ban. I believe the travel ban puts a dangerous stress on our relationships to the seven countries included and tarnishes the meaning of the USA promise to respect those who have gone through our rigorous vetting process and have invested in our country in order to travel here. Learning about and changing government policy in regards to immigration and national security should not put undue burden on vulnerable individuals making travel arrangements at present. Our policy should be clear and give warning of major changes months in advance for travelers, refugees, and business people alike.
Any argument from "safety" is specious at best. Logically, using "safety" as the foundational argument requires support for gun safety legislation, work place safety regulations, environmental regulations (clean air/water), food safety, smoking and so on, if "safety" and protecting the population are his true aims. Yet, such regulations are not only not supported but are being reversed which clearly indicates "safety"is not his true purpose. Data clearly shows white supremacists have killed more than other groups, yet his administration is instructing the FBI to focus solely on Islamic Extremists. While consideration is due to external threats, his pressing the Islamic extremist point is solely intended to increase fear and anxiety in white Christians in an effort to assume greater powers to the Executive Branch and, once assumed, use them elsewhere.
The ban goes against everything that we as a nation stand for. We are all sons and daughters of immigrants representing different religions and we should all be protected against this kind of unconstitutional act! No to the ban!!!
Please support the attorneys for Minnesota and Washington who are battling this unconstitutional and unAmerican action by the administration.
