Judge Blocks Trump’s Immigration Order; White House Seeks Emergency Stay

by Countable | 3.20.17

A federal judge has temporarily blocked President Trump’s executive order barring immigrants and refugees from certain countries, saying the order could cause "immediate and irreparable injury" to the United States. Immigration authorities and airline officials have resumed allowing entry to those holding legal visas.

The White House is preparing a petition for an emergency stay of the judge’s decision, calling Trump’s executive order "lawful and appropriate." In a statement, the White House press secretary said the President's order is meant to “protect the homeland.”

As a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, I have faced the terrorism that the world is so afraid of. The refugees that are trying to come here have as well. They are coming here to escape it. If we really want to fight terrorism, we need to gather those who oppose it around us to join in the fight. The irrational fear and EO is counterproductive to the fight.

The judge's choice to deem the ban unconstitutional must be upheld and I hope my representatives will defend this despite the White House's response. Refugees and immigrants make this country great. Vetting is already extreme. As your constituent, I hope you will defend the rights of immigrants and refugees who have a legal right to enter this country.

I feel confident that US District Judge James Robart put considerably more thought (and heart) into his order than Trump and his cronies in the WH did. I pray Trump doesn't have a leg to stand on and the judges order will prevail as cooler heads make better choices.

Even if you don't agree with the decision, please voice your support of the independent powers of the Judicial and the Executive branches. Just as your Legislative Branch does not and should not answer to the President, neither does the Judicial Branch. Do not support the President's blatant disrespect and disregard for this country's tried and true distribution of power and checks and balances. Your constituents are watching.

It is sad that a judge had to put a stop to Donald Trumps unconstitutional, racist behavior and these orders that support his agenda., specifically the ban on Muslim that protect his business interests. Republicans need to start speaking out against trump and I am shocked that republicans are standing by and saying nothing in the hopes that you will be able to promote your republican agenda. This is sick behavior and the majority of Americans do not agree with you. I am watching and your constituents will be able to vote in the next year and beyond and we will not forget. We are watching closely, like we have never been able to watch before. We will be involved like never before.

As a an immigrant from Iran my mother waited 10 years to get the opportunity to come to US. She came to US for freedom , democracy and a better future for my sister and I. Now I am a us citizen and want the same security but in a matter that is fair for all. A ban on Muslims will not stop terrorists, terrorist do not equal muslims. There is 1.6 billion muslims in the world, they can't all be terrorists. I don't consider myself some one that follows religion strictly but as an Iranian ,being kind to others is a huge part of our culture. Today my sister is a doctor and I had the blessing to purchase my 1st home at age 27 in NY. We are both Iranian Americans and there are many immigrants just like us that come here for the opportunity to better their life and eventually contribute back to US by paying their taxes and contribute back in their own way.

We already have extreme vetting! https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2017/02/01/refugees-are-already-vigorously-vetted-i-know-because-i-vetted-them/?utm_term=.0b0619016197 No legally admitted refugees since the 70s are responsible for domestic terror. On the flip side I know many people who lost homes and livelihood in the US thanks to the loose restrictions (now being reinstated with Dodd Frank repeal) and chaos created by big banks during the 2008 financial collapse. This is a disgusting red herring meant to distract us from plunder by big banks and trumps billionaires. Most legal refugees are women and children escaping violence. They're not as likely to hurt as as sharks in suits.

Banning Muslims by an executive order is a violation of the Establishment Clause in the First Amendment to our Constitution. This is the same Constitution that the President swore an oath to preserve and protect just two weeks ago. These are his other violations of his oath: •The gag order on Planned Parenthood and other institutions tthat interferes with the health care of female citizens. (See First Amendment) •The gag order on federal parks that prohibits them from presenting the facts on global warming. (See First Amendment) •Removing the Attorney General for doing her duty of supporting the constitution. (See U.S. Code › Title 28 › Part II) •Attempting to discredit the Fourth Estate. (See First Amendment) •Invalidating VISAs of thousands of people. (See Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, The Due Process and Equal Protection clauses) •Trying to coerce cities and states by denying funds that have already been allocated. (See Article I, Section 8, Clause 1, Congress has the power of the purse, not the President) IMPEACH the lying trator President ASAP.

I hope you will support the court's decision and work toward more sensible, less discriminatory immigration reform. This ban is simply a poorly veiled attempt at pushing out non Christians.

This is narrow minded. It's unconstitutional and unAmerican. Want to protect the homeland? Protect the environment, protect healthcare, protect infrastructure, protect education, demilitarize police, increase the minimum wage, stop the war on women, dismantle institutionalize racism. That's how you protect the homeland.
