It Shouldn't Be So Hard to Care. Let's Disrupt Politics.

by Countable | Updated on 2.8.19

This letter comes from Countable’s Managing Editor, Andrea Seabrook

Friends,

It is too hard.

Too hard to figure out what to do. Too hard to make a difference -- in politics, in representation, in government. That's what makes YOU so incredible -- you're doing it anyway. But for most people,

It’s just too hard to care.

That's why we're introducing The Daily Dose, a quick-study podcast that tells you what your government is doing and what you can do about it. It’s the next step in our mission at Countable, to disrupt ‘normal’ political culture, and get people thinking again.

In just a few weeks of beta-production, The Daily Dose has already tackled unexpected and critical questions such as, “Should animal cruelty be a felony?” “What’s the difference between global warming and climate change?” and, “Is Trump’s cabinet unconstitutional?

Please subscribe to the podcast and share this letter. Our hope is that Countable and The Daily Dose will help restore what I believe are the foundational ideals of American society: disagreement is natural, debate is sacred, and compromise is holy.

All My Best,

Andrea

I Don’t Know How To Explain To You That You Should Care About Other People. Our disagreement is not merely political, but a fundamental divide on what it means to live in a civilized society, how to be a good person, and why any of that matters.

It’s bad enough that Countable leans so far to the left that they have to tell you what to think, but now they have to tell what to do about it, “disrupt normal government”???, I am sure that if Obama or Clinton were in office that they wouldn’t be encouraging disruption of normal government? This should be a neutral platform for political opinions.

We need socialized medicine. We are the only (civilized) country on the planet where medicine in a for profit business. Every other country has socialized medicine paid for by higher taxes and while we are on the topic, they also have low cost higher education and free daycare for the children of workers. They have many more benefits and a better tax structure that our politicians would hate. But I digress. We have to start somewhere helping the general population so why not healthcare.

COUNTABLE IS BIASED TO THE LEFT IN COMMENTARY & SOURCES. “Doug” Your comment was well said and to the point, But it’ll be falling on 75% of the Countable Democratic constituents or surrogates residing on the site: “It’s bad enough that Countable leans so far to the left that they have to tell you what to think, but now they have to tell what to do about it, “disrupt normal government”???, I am sure that if Obama or Clinton were in office that they wouldn’t be encouraging disruption of normal government?” “Countable should be a neutral platform for political opinions.” SneakyPete......... 🙀🤔🤔🤔🙀. 2*8*19........

I'm so tired of an improved economy. Don't you miss the days of high minority unemployment and industry leaving the United States. Having industry come back to our country is just awful. Take a look at the improvements instead of listening to what the DNC wants you to hear. Remember, every day is what you make it. Today was a great day, I can't wait until tomorrow!

Folks, maybe I am misunderstanding you, but in case I’m not, it’s not Countable that leans left, it’s that the majority of the members lean left. You members on the right have several alternatives. You can quit playing the victim and continue to up your game. You can recruit more folks. You have some folks who post very well thought out, organized and respectful. They don’t whine about MAGA or BUILD THE SILLY WALL. They think about the requirements and work from there. I like those folks. I am one of the few moderates left in America. I follow folks from the left. Right & Center. I get aggravated by whining, playing the victim and being disrespectful to others. This group of people are better than that. Respond to the message, not how it is presentation. Rant over.

Is this supposed to be Countable being “constructive and welcoming”? This app is biased so far to the left, it is ridiculous. The way questions are worded, lumping issues together. It is disingenuous & destroys the value of the app. Countable should be impartial so that it may actually be a benefit to American citizens as well as be a viable tool. For Andrea to have spent that much time being a journalist on politics, she sure hasn’t seemed to learn from it. Perhaps her time would be better spent on the history of socialism and communism and how many countries they have destroyed and the lives that have been lost because of them. I care deeply for my country and it’s founding principles. I understand why our founder’s created the Constitution the way they did. It is disgraceful that anyone would accuse American patriots of not loving their country because they don’t want it destroyed by tried and failed socialist/communist agendas. It is because I care that I will never find that acceptable for future generations. Leftists are not progressive, they are regressive and many don’t even understand it.

Wow. Lots of angry posts directed at Countable for “leaning left.” Did I miss the part where Countable took over my device, forced me to read their Communist Propaganda, and wear red? Oh that’s right, it’s an app I installed on my device and I choose to open. If you want more conservative news, head to the Fox News echo chamber and stay off this platform. It’s a free country.

“It Isn’t too hard to care “Andrea”, it just takes time to listen, to others.” We are always hearing, most of the time subconsciously.Listening is done by choice. It is the interpretative action taken by someone in order to understand and potentially make meaning of something they hear from what others are truly SAYING. It isn’t to hard to figure out what to do. It isn’t to hard to make a difference -- in politics, in representation, in government. That's what making Countable participants so incredible and important. But for most people,It’s just too hard, in taking time to participate care. However, as we seen here, there are two key elements, which greatly impact the political dissertation which is taking place: * The commentary presented, if my interpretation is correct, is running 80%+/- Democratic Leftist, by the participants giving the site, in my opinion, a biased Center-Left rating. * The Sources used in the preparation of the markets presented, are more generally of the Progressive-Left persuasions in their topics and wording of the markets presented. * LEFT-CENTER BIASED : These media sources have a slight to moderate liberal bias.  They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor liberal causes.(As example: Axios Media or Axios a news and information company)(See: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/axios/) * See: As example: ProPublica: Is a non-profit investigative journalism organization headquartered in New York City.)(See: See: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/propublica/) * LEAST-BIASED: These sources have minimal bias and use very few loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes).(See: Take A Pick (https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/center/ Hopefully your next step in your mission at Countable, to disrupt the “NORMAL” political culture, and get people thinking again, which, if I’m correct, is why you’re introducing The Daily Dose, a quick-study podcast that tells us what our government is doing and what we can do about it. It’s a well needed start, to offer a political, un-biased opportunity in the cross-fertilization of ideas, which will facilitate the ability, without often slanderous commentary’s, to compromise with one political sector with another. Good Luck with the new venture and I’ll take advantage of it to see if if it turns out you’ve indicated. SneakyPete.......... 🤔🤔🤔🤔. 2*8*19...........

I am happy to share any posts that address the abysmal state for which we, America, provides, protects, and/or plans for this nation’s children. Beyond that, I do not hold out much hope for our democracy. History has proven that no society, culture, or nation survives 4 generations of continual neglect and the widespread abandonment of societal protections for children. America’s fourth generation should be here in less than 5 years, our birth rate continues to fall, and the only sustained concern I have witnessed from any of our elected officials is a concern for the welfare of 2 undocumented children during the month of December. Point of interest....or concern... around 100 American children died during the month of December due to neglect/abuse, but I don’t recall any media coverage of these children. Do you? https://lynnenamka.com/relationships/relationships-articles/selfishness-narcissism-family-relationships/

I care, because I have grandchildren and I want them to grow up in a better world than we have now. The mess in VA is a perfect example of how we end up with totally the wrong people in government. We need to disrupt thing big time. I’m in.

94 Journalist and workers died last year trying to keep people in formed, because they care about the corruption, crimes, the inequality and the deaths. They try to give unbiased news and information from both side, yet some of the general public don't care until it's too late. This world is a social venture. I thank all the journalist and support person past and present.

I care about my country, I want it to be safe for my children’s children. I don’t want them worried about terrorist, international or domestic. I care about the election process and the reason our founding fathers knew huge concentrations of the population should never have control of what is good for the entire country. I believe in legal immigration and assimilation is necessary for America to remain free strong and undivided. I believe we have to listen to each other’s views without demonizing someone with a differing opinion. This country needs to go back to its roots. It’s been corrupted and compromised for years.

Isn’t “disrupting the normal political culture” part of the platform on which Trump ran and the stated reason some people voted for him - to”shake things up”? Why is it offensive, “attacking our sitting President”, or leftist for Countable and some commenters to call for the same thing? It’s certainly not exclusive to liberals or Democrats to say “stop attacking me” while attacking someone else. I’ve read seeming conservatives calling those who appear to lean in a more liberal or Democrat “morons”, “Dims”, “stupid”, ”traitors” among other things in the comments on this site. Let’s all work toward civil, respectful dialogue and reduce the hypocrisy no matter which way we lean.

I do not understand why our country has followed Trump and his bunch in the way they treat other people. It seems to me that our country is better than that. It should not be that difficult to care about others & take their lives into consideration. Mixing that attitude with the proliferation of weapons has made the situation even worse. We have to get back to the foundation of this country and As Soon As Possible.
