Private Sector Hiring Remains Strong Despite Shutdown

How do you feel about the state of the economy?

by Axios | Updated on 1.30.19

The private sector added 213,000 jobs in January, topping the 178,000 that economists had expected, according to ADP's national employment report released on Wednesday, signaling that the labor market has yet to dry up.

Between the lines: Jobs growth surged despite the "severe disruptions" businesses saw during the government shutdown, Moody's Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi said in a statement. Friday's non-farm payrolls report, which includes government workers, is expected to be negatively impacted by the shutdown.

My company got a huge tax break yet they are cutting expenses and terminating employees as a head count reduction (all in their 50s so far, go figure). I don’t think the economy is doing well at all.

I’m just waiting for the other foot to fall. It was good under Bush too...until 2008. Please bring stability to the markets.

You can create as many jobs as you want but if wages can’t make up for the cost of inflation it’s not doing most of us any good

Good high paying jobs are still missing from the economy. The jobs being created are low skilled low paying types of jobs. The healthcare industry isn’t seeing the so called boom in the economy where jobs are created. The exact opposite is what’s happening, multiple large heath systems are currently going through reorganization’s.

Trump had a large part of the workers in America arrested detained and deported. So there’s plenty of jobs in the fast food restaurants and in the Agricultural fields picking Produce and Cleaning the homes of senators and congressmen and or Cleaning and maintaining Country clubs for Donald Trump. Oh wait Donald did you really fire those illegal immigrants you have working at your Country clubs, your Penthouse, your hotels?

Not sure where this information is coming from. Probably some of Trump’s Bunch are in charge of the numbers & are manipulating the numbers to sound better for Trump Baby. The companies I’m associated with have gotten s big tax break, but are cutting people’s hours, not giving raises, etc. The working people are doing WORSE THAN LAST YEAR.

Although employment and hiring statistics appear positive; the numbers are very misleading. The majority of employment opportunuties and new jobs offerings are part-time or hourly. These positions do not provide benefits (such as insurance) or offer long-term job security for employees. This can create a very unstable economic future, where people cannot invest in such things as higher education, or down-payment on property, or save for their future, or plan for retirement.

Just a note about the jobs that have been added. Many of them are low level jobs- below minimum wages in many cases. Those jobs are not of any use to raise the economic stability of the hirees if they don’t help people get out of poverty. Another problem is so many people have not learned what they should have about holding a decent job: being on time, come to work!!, dressing & looking business like, learning how to do basic math & be able to write a simple paragraph with correct grammar & spelling. If a person can’t do those things why would any business hire that person??

Even though Donald Trump tried to kill the economy is hard as he could to please his friends in Russia it’s Stayed barely even. This idiot has run up trillions of dollars in debt, wasted $9 billion for his $6 billion wall, argues with his entire cabinet about policy that he knows nothing about, could there be any more out rages behavior this idiot Could commit to before Republicans will own up to the fact that he is a complete ass and in capable of governing this country. This man is a tragic loser.

I would feel much better if the jobs were full time and had some sort of benefit package, not like this make believe insurance many people have. In this system businesses and employees both are harmed from skyrocketing health care cost combined with low pay for workers. Time for the american people to jump from the stupid wagon. One more point. Trump is not your friend.

We can’t find good people! Can’t pass a drug test! Can’t pass a simple math test at 8th grade level. And if they do manage to get hired they arrive late! They clock in at start time or two minutes to? You are supposed to be at your your work area/station not walking 200 yards across the plant to your area! It’s a big place! It’s Steel! These young dopes don’t have a clue! Mothered at 20 minutes before start as I don’t like waking in blind! No damned dedication! These young people show No ambition! Go sit in the can on their cell phones for a half hour and they wonder why they can’t make it! And the money is good!!! It’s how you raise those kids!
