Trump Organization to Tighten Background Checks After Report on Undocumented Workers

Should all employers be required to use E-Verify to check employees' legal work eligibility?

by Axios | Updated on 1.30.19

The Trump Organization plans to implement the federal background check program E-Verify at all of its U.S. properties to determine whether employees are legally eligible to work, the Washington Post reports.

Why it matters: The revelation Tuesday comes days after a Post exposé about the Trump National Golf Club in New York, which has reportedly employed undocumented immigrants for years. It's the first acknowledgment by the company that it has failed to properly screen its employees, despite President Trump calling during the 2016 campaign for E-Verify to be used by all employers. Media reports over the past year have suggested that Trump's properties have at times turned a blind eye to the immigration status of its workers.

Read that as : Trump organization to hastily pretend that they had no idea what they were doing when they hired hundreds of undocumented immigrants at multiple sites for desperation wages by actively helping them get false papers. ... yeah... sure. Look up the history.

The Trump Organization knew it's hiring practices were illegal. Now that this is publicly known it's trying to C.I.A. Trump Organization took advantage of people who came to the USA for a better life. Now Trump Organization wants to pretend it cares. Too late the internet has a record of hiring practices. If the Trump Organization really cared about the status of people working for it, it would not have hired people the way it did.

E-Verify at all of its U.S. properties to determine whether employees are legally eligible to work? Will all the farmer workers, day workers and part time workers be check, no. So who will go to jail for hiring them and giving them money for being homeless, you. People seeking asylum will not have any documentation, nor the homeless. Corporations have a vested interest and a need too make sure as who and why. Trump knew he was hiring immigrants at all his places. If he didn’t he’s dumber than a Stump.

I think Trump’s institution of e-verify is too little, too late. I think he’s skirted the law since forever, and changes course when caught after declaring he knew nothing about it. At least, that’s the documented pattern.

Why not just build a wall around the golf course? I hear that solves all your problems. Might even cure cancer.

The Idiot has been using undocumented immigrants forever. To get around it in Mar-a-Lago, he advertises in a hidden area of the ad section, that no normal person would read, so no Americans/legals apply. (God forbid he should pay decent wages.) Then he requests a waver, saying no legals applied, and they grant him permission to hire them. What a scam. That’s your man, Repugnants. Such a great piece of shit, he is. A do as I say, not as I do, kind of guy? Check it out. It’s been going on for years.

I don’t think they should have to use E-Verify unless Donald Trump has to use it in the White House with his wife because she actually came here illegally and work here for a year illegally. Does that make her illegal? How’s that work?

Trump has hired immigrants all his adult life, beginning with the Polish workers that are rumored to have lived on the site of the first Trump Tower and who Donald supposedly stiffed and sent back to Poland after the job was finished....When someone is no longer of use to him. he cuts them loose.

I think both Republicans, who pride ourselves on fighting illegal immigration, and Democrats, who pride themselves on looking out for American workers, should support the use of E-Verify. This makes sense. Corporations should NOT be allowed to hire illegals over Americans.

Yes, it is extremely easy to get false identification or to start working somewhere without identification as an illegal. If we are serious about background checks, it would take the main incentive away from people wanting to come here illegally for work.

Fine the Trump Organization and all companies who have hired illegal aliens a minimum of 10% of annual revenue (NOT profits) for every single undocumented employee (even if this will bankrupt the company). This fine will pay for the immigration program. The real criminals are the unethical companies and people who hire undocumented immigrants. It is also the reason there is even an immigration problem in the United States. If these corrupt employers were not hiring hem and telling them to call all their family and friends in other countries to let them know they have a job if they can get across the border, we would not have this problem. Meanwhile, while these companies have made huge profits, other ethical companies and all tax payers have been paying the freight.

Why are all businesses not required to use E- verify ? I would think all Republicans would be like a solid wall behind this US employment eligibility check?

E-verify is a simple safeguard for employers. As a teacher, I have been finger printed for extensive background check, along with drug testing. This just makes common sense. We have the technology, let's use it.
