What’s the story?
The results of the Alabama special election, were certified Thursday afternoon, despite an 11th hour legal challenge from the defeated Republican candidate, Roy Moore, making Doug Jones the first Democratic senator from the state in 25 years, .
Moore’s lawyers filed a complaint at 10:33 PM on Wednesday, according to the New York Times, alleging "systemic voter fraud" and asking that the certification be blocked. Secretary of State John Merrill, a Republican who himself voted for Moore, has flatly denied the allegations:
"I have not seen any irregularities or any inconsistencies that are outside the norm."
Judge Johnny Hardwick of Montgomery County Circuit Court dismissed Mr. Moore’s complaint minutes before the vote was certified early Thursday afternoon.
Moore has still not conceded defeat in the race, but then he still hasn’t conceded defeat in either the 2006 or 2010 Republican primary elections for governor. There is some speculation he will run for governor again, but will need to declare his candidacy by February 9.
What do you think?
Should Roy Moore run for governor of Alabama?
