Moore Challenge To Election Certification Denied In Court, Jones Declared Winner

by Countable | 12.28.17

What’s the story?

The results of the Alabama special election, were certified Thursday afternoon, despite an 11th hour legal challenge from the defeated Republican candidate, Roy Moore, making Doug Jones the first Democratic senator from the state in 25 years, .

Moore’s lawyers filed a complaint at 10:33 PM on Wednesday, according to the New York Times, alleging "systemic voter fraud" and asking that the certification be blocked. Secretary of State John Merrill, a Republican who himself voted for Moore, has flatly denied the allegations:

"I have not seen any irregularities or any inconsistencies that are outside the norm."

Judge Johnny Hardwick of Montgomery County Circuit Court dismissed Mr. Moore’s complaint minutes before the vote was certified early Thursday afternoon.

Moore has still not conceded defeat in the race, but then he still hasn’t conceded defeat in either the 2006 or 2010 Republican primary elections for governor. There is some speculation he will run for governor again, but will need to declare his candidacy by February 9.

What do you think?

Should Roy Moore run for governor of Alabama?

Despite how much I dislike pieces of vile like Moore or the Manchurian: This is America where even bigots, racists, sexists, and pedophiles have rights and sadly get 48% of a vote. . . Great to see Alabama do the right thing and certify Jones’ win.

Glad to see the Court handled this properly. I do hope Doug Jones will remember all the people who came out and voted for him and that their interests (which have been forgotten by Alabama for centuries) are first and foremost on his mind as he votes in the months to come. Do better by Alabama, Mr. Jones, than any of your predecessors have done. Work for all the people.

Moore is a sore loser. He is also a bigot, an ignorer of the law and the constitution, a person with sexual issues and no friend of anyone in this country but a bunch of radical religionists. There should be no room for him or his ilk in American government at any level. (Luckily for him, the constitution he disdained as Alabama's chief justice gives him an opportunity to be in that government. It also, luckily for the rest of us, caused him to be drummed out of it - twice - for not following that constitution. Reap what you sow, Roy-boy.)

Roy Moore is a sick criminal. People like him shouldn’t be allowed to work in public office nor allowed to run for public office. There were a handful of shameful people who supported Moore by saying, “Back then it was allowed. Mothers let their daughters get married at 12 & 14 yrs. Well you people who forgive people like Moore must’ve not had people like him scoping around for your daughter or sister. This was back in the 80’s. I graduated from high school at that time that Moore was being kicked out of public places because of his behavior towards young teenage girls. It wasn’t looked at as ok. Mothers weren’t thrilled to have a 30 something year old man wanting relations with their teenage daughters...unless they were drug addicts looking for a way to further fund their drug habits. The same people who said, “That was back then,” are the very same people that don’t want birth control or planned parenthood available to all. What a bunch of oxymorons.

The truth is neither you or I know if Judge Moore did these things 40 years ago. Personally I have more than reasonable doubt. He has never been prosecuted except by the liberal media and gossips. He's been made guilty without trial. To wait 40 years just before an election to accuse him seems paid off to me. There is no blue dress of proof or pictures on an airplane. Some of the accusations have been clearly debunked. There are no recent accusations. So it is interesting that for the sake of your liberal believes many of you will tear down a person just to push your agenda. Where were some of you and your outrage when the Kennedy's and Bill Clinton did far worse. Women were raped and died in unusual circumstances? 48% of the people of Alabama are smart enough to be able to see through the media bias. There were 85 cases of voter fraud. Yet you applaud a judge who denies the people to have the vote accurately recounted?? What are you afraid of? If you feel so strongly that the vote was correct then you shouldn't have an issue with a recount. Justice has not prevailed. Oh and for all of those shouting that he lost and he just needs to concede and go away--sure and hopefully he takes Hillary Clinton on that horse with him. Talk about someone who is not gracefully accepting defeat--What Happened!!! And by the way--President Trump is doing a an awesome job! He's basically squashing the JV team, unemployment is at its lowest since 1969 (before most of you were born I'm sure), and the stock market is the best since FDR and the new tax bill puts money in your pocket (not the Clintons). Face it folks--whether you want to admit it or not we have a great President! For whatever reason the establishment on both sides of the aisle didn't want Roy Moore in this position this was not about these questionable allegations--you should be very concerned about that. As some of you get older try to look outside the Matrix you've been raised in and unplug yourself. Be a Neo

Judge Moore was a flawed candidate from the outset. I just hope that the newly Senator Jones does what is in the best interest of Alabamians. Republicans should learn from Democrats and keep their troops united. Chuck Schumer has all the Democrat Senators under his thumb. I hope the voters give President Trump the majority on both houses of Congress, but especially the magic number of 60 seats in the Senate to be able to Govern without opposition. MAG Again. Wise up people!

It is sad to see how precisely timed, last minute, unsubstantiated accusations are used to influence an election! Politics is very brutal and I look forward to finding out what the truth is when these accusers go to trial.
