Haley Threatens That President Trump Will Be Watching When U.N. Votes On Jerusalem Resolution Thursday

by Countable | 12.21.17

Updated December 21, 2017: UN Ambassador Nikki Haley turned to Twitter to document the vote tally for the resolution condemning recent U.S. policy changes regarding Jerusalem:

The Guardian offered a more nuanced tally of the resolution vote. 128 nations, including Turkey, Yemen and Egypt, voted in support of the resolution. 9 nations voted against the resolution, including the U.S. and Israel, and 35 nations abstained. They did not account for the other 21 nations in the 193-nation body that Haley is claiming as supporters of the United States.

What’s the story?

The United Nations (UN) General Assembly has called an emergency meeting on Thursday — only the tenth since the UN first convened in 1950, reports Bloomberg. On the agenda for the emergency meeting is a resolution criticizing the United States decision to formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the U.S. embassy there from Tel Aviv.

UN Ambassador Nikki Haley vetoed a Security Council resolution on Monday asking countries not to establish diplomatic missions in Jerusalem. It is the first U.S. veto cast in the Security Council in six years.

No country has veto power in the General Assembly, and the resolution being considered Thursday is expected to pass with a wide margin despite a letter sent to several countries by Haley threatening that President Trump would be "watching" the votes and would take any votes criticizing the U.S. “personally”.

Fox News shared highlights of Haley’s message on Twitter:

At a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday President Trump praised Haley’s message:

"I liked the message that Nikki sent yesterday at the United Nations to all of those nations that take our money and then they vote against us in the Security Council, they vote against us potentially at the assembly. They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars and then they vote against us. Well we’re watching those votes. Let ’em vote against us."

He also threatened to withdraw aid from any nations that voted for the resolution on Thursday.

What do you think?

Are you with the president and Ambassador Haley on this one, or do you support the UN General Assembly resolution? Do you think the way Ambassador Haley is communicating with our allies in the UN about this is right or wrong?

Dear World, the views and opinions of the Trump regime do not reflect those of the majority of Americans. Most of us believe in free and open discourse. Our own Constitution guarantees our citizens the right to speak their minds. The majority of Americans know it is wrong to buy votes. Most of us know it is wrong to bully and extort others. We are currently experiencing a minor glitch in our democratic system. Please be patient while we work to correct it. Sincerely, those of us who believe in putting American VALUES first.

The hypocrisy in this message is astounding, even for this administration. Didn't they say they were not going to impose American values on any other nation? Didn't they declare time after time that leaders of other nations should make decisions based on their beliefs and not ours? Actually THREATENING members of the UN Security Council with a hissy-fit response by the American president is unbelievable. If the president cannot stop viewing every move or comment made by foreign governments (or even US citizens) as a personal affront, we are in very big trouble. News flash to the WH: Not everything that happens in the world revolves around, is a reflection of or has anything to do with DJT. The US made this decision unilaterally. If you can't take the criticism, stay out of politics.

An individual who does not take the opinions of others into account, who does not arm himself with knowledge and the facts before acting or speaking, who does not think about the consequences of his actions...that person does not deserve to call himself the leader of the free world.

Shame on the countries and the American citizens who condemn Presidents Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel and to move our embassy there. Trump is the first President with any resolve to do what many Presidents (both Dems and GOP), with unanimous Congressional votes, have said they would do for decades but did not have the— dare I say it?—the balls to do it. That is why Trump is in office. He means what he says and he says what he means. Then he does what he said he would do. By not moving the embassy, has peace ever been achieved? No. The best negotiator proves that they will do—or not do— what they say they will. Those voting against us today made that peace less attainable, not more, by their actions. And the UN, overall, has stopped serving a peaceful purpose. They have stolen funds from hungry children in Africa and their “Peacekeepers,” have sexually assaulted the vulnerable. This cabal of nations has proven to be anti-American and and anti-Israel—really just anti-Semitic—and we should pull the 8 billion dollars we give the UN to help our own country and the nations that support us. These countries do not have to agree with every stance the USA takes on the world stage, but they must never stick a thumb in our country’s eye at every opportunity—that is what today’s vote was about. Shame on those countries and shame on our own citizenry whose hate for Trump colors everything they do.

I do not support moving our embassy to Jerusalem. Please don’t threaten the countries of the United Nations in my name. Push for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian issue! This is not it!

I’m not sure when this country has been so hated by the rest of the world as it is now. Fox News has set up a narrative that is just plain dangerous! The rest of the world is so disgusted with us and our choice of President, it’s hard to travel anywhere without getting a barrage of accusations. We can not continue to arrogantly think that we are right and the rest of the world is wrong. Wake up and save us from this administration!

This administration is a disgrace to the Presidency. Now we’re threatening other nations that refuse to take the U.S. position? That isn’t diplomacy, it’s thuggery.

If you go against world opinion then be a man and openly accept the criticism. You are such an embarrassment to all that we stand for as a nation. You can’t buy allies but you can lose them with threats. Please go away and let us try and recover some dignity before it is gone forever.

The United Nations is not under the dominion of Ms Haley or this US president. We cannot bully our way through world politics. I will speak as one American, you, madam, and this president, do not speak for me.

After World War 2 and the Holocaust, I understand why BOTH the UN AND Israel formed. I am grateful for both. Yet, bullying isn’t the way to communicate when communicating to solve the world’s biggest problems and that’s how Ms. Haley and the “President” come across.

Trump can watch all he wants on the UN vote, he has made us pretty much on our own! I think the world getting to a point where they could care less about America, which plays to China and Russia. Jerusalem is recognized by three religions groups all lay claim to it. This is a religionists group problem! Remember separation between church and state there is a reason for that. All this is, is a religionists war for thousands of years. Religions are the root of all worlds problem they give you hate and kill in the name of God. Trump just fanning the fire.

For the U.S. position to be one of not accepting any criticism of its policies shows a grave weakness in its....dare I say it....leaders. We are not always right, despite what the person occupying the White House says.

Trumps Team is magnificent. His views & words are exactly what everyone I know has asked about. Why do these country’s take our money, but don’t align with the agenda that we have always pushed? It’s like they are the welfare country’s of the world. They want to take billions from us, but expect us to align our views with them. No it needs to be the other way. If they expect to get billions from us then they should expect to follow our rules.

Forbes published an eye-popping article in 2013 titled, HOW DICTATORS COME TO POWER IN A DEMOCRACY. Interestingly, this article was written before the 2016 election, which makes it even more heart- stopping. For anyone who thinks we aren’t living in dangerous times they need to read this article.

I absolutely 100 percent support Ambassador Haley’s rhetoric and decision. It’s time for The United States to be strong again, not Obama weak. He destroyed our standing in the world. Trump and Haley are restoring it.
