Your Turn, Your Voices: Here's How the Shutdown Has Affected You
Have you experienced the effects of the shutdown?
As the partial government shutdown hits the 25-day mark, federal workers aren’t the only ones finding themselves affected by Washington’s budget impasse.
Here’s how you, Countable users, said you personally experienced the shutdown:
"I just started my fourth semester at my local community college. I will not be able to afford the books required for my classes until the shutdown ends. We need to stop indulging the notion that the border wall will ever happen and resume regular government function." -Xander
"My husband who will have served the Department of the Interior for 40 years this January 2019, is furloughed. The government has moved us several times across the country several times away from family and friends is the government he chose to serve over private industry. He has always loved his job and has performed it with an altruistic belief in public service..." -Marcia
"My dad works for Homeland Security and he was going to help in paying off the last semester of my grad school and now he can’t because of this shutdown. Now I have to look for other means to pay off my last semester. This shutdown is ridiculous." -Delyla
"In my business, non-essential employees are laid off. I would like to see that happening at all levels of government also." -Forestdog
"I see my family, neighbors and countrymen are suffering and trying to stand tall and proud, but it is hurting their lives, families and their children..." -Ray
"Yes. I can feel my tax dollar being more wisely spent and feel the benefits from smaller, more efficient government. Keep the government shut down forever." -John
- While a majority of users have not experienced the effects of the shutdown, Countable user Nancy noted:
"While I have not personally been impacted, I am so very tired of this ever happening. And not for the first time. I do not understand how this can be allowed to happen. Over and over there have been shutdowns. Come on, be responsible adults. I don’t run my home with such lack of planning and responsibility. And the nation is home to all of us."
What do you think?
Do you agree with Tina, who commented:
“Until this country is no longer run like a football game, DEMS VS. REPS, we are all going to lose. It is high time our representatives make their decisions based on the people not the party, we all lose.”
Do Democrats & President Trump need to cut a deal on border security funding? Take action and tell your reps, then share your thoughts and experiences below.
