The Daily Countable: Down to the Line on Tax Reform

by Countable | 12.18.17

Greetings, Folks. There's really no bigger thing right now than…

One Big Thing: Taxes, Taxes, Taxes

Congressional Republicans are on the verge of passing historic changes to America's tax system. Two things you gotta do:

  • Educate Yourself: Here's our summary of the final tax bill — yes, the actual bill! — that the House of Representatives will vote on tomorrow, with the Senate following shortly thereafter.
  • Take Action: Love it or leave it, here's the best way to make sure your Reps know exactly what you want them to do.

Your Gov at a Glance 👀

The White House: President Trump in DC

  • The president delivers remarks regarding the Administration’s National Security Strategy, at the Ronald Reagan building in DC.
  • Returns to the White House, meets with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson

The House of Representatives: In Session

  • Voting on a bill to call for public-private partnerships to expand K-12 computer science education.
  • Voting on a bill to establish and maintain a family caregiving strategy.
  • Voting on five other bills.

The Senate: In Session

Keep in touch, Countable folk. I'm anxious for your ideas and suggestions.

I have a few words for the members of Congress as they prepare to vote on their regressive tax plan this week. Indecent. Immoral. Indifferent. Corrupt. Obscene. Self-serving. Self-enriching. Last time I checked, those seven words were still part of the American vocabulary and not subject to censorship. Stay tuned, I am sure that will change.

This tax bill is a handout to the rich paid for by lower and middle class Americans. Absolutely do NOT let this pass.

This tax bill is horrible. If you want to do tax reform, do it, but do it right and quit trying to trick everyone into thinking this is a good thing for the poor, seniors, or low to middle income families. Shame on you. Pass this and you can kiss your jobs goodbye.

I’m so appalled by this tax bill and it’s end to the healthcare mandate, it’s tax breaks to the rich. If you truly represent your voting constituents you will vote a hard NO! Put your citizens before your party!

The tax bill got worse with the last minute amendments. All who vote for it are voting for their self interest. Not the people’s, not the country’s. You will not get my vote in your next election.

NO NO NO NO! How many more ways do the citizens of this country have to say it? When polls are showing that 80% of the country DOES NOT WANT THIS TAX BILL, then you can not even pretend to be representing your constituents.

The fact that any cuts for individuals expire in 8 years and cuts for corporations and businesses are permanent tells us what Congress's priorities are.

Franklin Roosevelt said, “We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American Eagle to feather their own nests.” So despite the OVERWHELMING opposition from their constituents the GOP will vote in a tax plan, completely partisan, that only benefits the ultra wealthy. Our country goes further in debt, not to help those in need but to help those in greed. It is shameful.

If you can NOT get 20% of the dems to agree then its a one sided bill and you are not serving the great people of Texas. Let’s show them how we work together. Tired of one sided politics. You can do better.

I suppose there is no stopping the corrupt tax bill for the rich but I want to state my objections. It’s a bill to benefit the super rich and large cooperations while increasing the national debt to unacceptable limits that will surely cost the poor and working class. There are things in the bill that have no reason to be there like opening the protected Arctic wildlife refuge to oil drilling. Must make the republican senators feel real good pushing something through that the majority of citizens oppose. Big dollar donors and lobbyists win again at our expense.

The Tax Reform bill will likely pass this week and I understand this poses a special problem for liberal Democrats. They may now need to double down on their hate and fear rhetoric and hope that serves as enough of a diversion that American people won’t notice an improvement in the economy.

This tax plan is immoral. What kind of country are we becoming? Is this at all about what’s best for our country or is it just another give away to the wealthy. When will our representatives start voting for the people instead of themselves.

I see republicans not listening to the American people and just serving their own self interest. The bill is a scam and you already know trickle down economics doesn’t work. Too many economists are making sense and this is a bad bill. I know my voice means nothing to you, I also know you could care less, but I spoke up anyway because I care.
