GOP Tax Cuts & Avoiding a Gov't Shutdown - This Week in Congress
Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
Congress faces a busy week ahead, with votes expected on a short-term funding bill to prevent a shutdown at midnight Friday that keeps the government open into mid-January and the final version of GOP tax reform legislation.
The House convenes Monday when it will consider bills to establish a family caregiving strategy, expand the U.S.-Israeli space partnership, and call for the use of public-private partnerships to bring computer science education to more K-12 classrooms. The precise vote schedule for the rest of the week is yet to be announced, but the conference report of the GOP tax bill and short-term government funding bill will be considered. Votes will also be held on bills to make designations of systemically-important financial institutions not based solely on a bank’s size, and to require proxy advisory firms to register with the SEC. Additional bills might be added to the schedule.
The Senate will vote Monday to confirm the general counsel for the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and an assistant secretary of defense. Its schedule for the rest of the week is yet to be announced, but votes on the GOP tax bill conference report and short-term government funding are expected.
