UPDATED: Do You Support Impeachment Articles Against President Trump?
Should the House vote to impeach Trump?
UPDATED - January 4, 2019:
- In an early-morning tweet Friday, Trump claimed Democrats "only want to impeach me because they know they can't win in 2020, too much success!"
- Thursday evening, video surfaced of freshman Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) relaying a conversation with her son where she said "we're gonna go and impeach the moterf******."
- Tlaib tweeted on Friday:
- In response to Talib's comments, newly-elected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told MSNBC's Town Hall on Friday: "We want to be unified and bring people together. Impeachment is a very divisiveness approach to take and we shouldn’t take it without the facts."
- As for Tlaib's comments, Pelosi said:
"Generationally, that would not be language I would use, but nonetheless, I don’t think we should make a big deal of it."

What’s the story?
- Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) plans to introduce articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Thursday, the first day the Democrats retake control of the House.
“There is no reason it shouldn’t be before the Congress,” Sherman said. “Every day, Donald Trump shows that leaving the White House would be good for our country.”
- Rep. Al Green (D-TX) cosponsored the articles of impeachment, which Sherman originally filed in July 2017.
What is the accusation?
- The articles of impeachment for high crimes and misdemeanors accuse Trump of obstructing justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey because Comey refused to stop investigating Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
What is House leadership saying?
- Shortly before being elected as House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told NBC’s “Today” on Thursday morning that “we shouldn’t be impeaching for a political reason, and we shouldn’t avoid impeachment for a political reason.”
- Pelosi added that she wants to “see what comes” from special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
