The Daily Countable: Congress's To Do List, Wildfires & Trump In The Hot Seat

by Countable | 12.11.17

Happy Monday, Countable Friends!

Did you step away from the news this weekend to get into the holiday spirit? Feeling some trepidation about diving back in? Let's run down a list of big ticket items today to help you drown out the unnecessary noise. Or elevator music renditions of Jingle Bells, as the case may be.

One Big Thing

President Trump is again in the hot seat today over allegations that he sexually harassed and assaulted multiple women. Three Democratic lawmakers called for his resignation over the weekend. U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley broke with the administration and said Sunday that his accusers should be heard. And now those accusers are speaking with the media in New York City.

Has the #MeToo movement finally caught up with the president? Should it? We're asking for your thoughts in today's Your Turn, which will be up soon. But tell us now if you can't wait. We want to hear your thoughts!

On the Radar

As usual, our crack Countable team of news elves has laid out everything that's scheduled to come in front of Congress this week, so you don't have to figure it out yourself. Check out This Week In Congress for a summary of the week's to do list, as well as links to all the upcoming bills you can weigh in on. Which bills will be on your naughty and nice lists?

Under the Radar

Wildfires continue to rage in California, while GOP leaders in Congress continue to debate the final details of their tax reform bill. Still to be seen is whether they will leave in a provision from the House version of the bill to disallow deductions for personal losses from wildfires. What do you think they should do? Reach out to your lawmakers and tell them!

a tax bill cutting out deductions for medical, education, mortgage interest...cutting benefits for veterans, cutting deductions for losses from natural disasters....giving millions in tax breaks to millionaires...then claiming a deficit (which this tax scam created) so congress will cut social programs to plug up the hole they created....seems to be a concentrated effort to crash the u.s. economy just to feed outrageous greed...not a great job on this administrations part!

Trump’s allegations of sexual abuse should be investigated to the hilt and he forced to resign! This administration is a travesty.

So are we discussing what sexual harassment is acceptable and who is allowed to get away with it? Or do we all agree its unacceptable and these cowards should not hold leadership positions, unless of course you put party before country 🤔

The women need to be heard and respected. Not everything is political. There is a moral code and even the President is not above that

This man, sitting in the office of President of the United States, is a horrible example for the children of this country and a national embarrassment! I don’t care how many people made the mistake of voting for him, this man needs to be removed from office. His actions are indefensible! Stop blaming the media and do your job for the sake of all of us! Impeach President Trump now!

So if a family loses their house to a wildfire, they can’t deduct the loss on their income tax??? How many times are we going to punish these poor people? Where is the compassion in this government??

Hell YES tRump should be held accountable for the allegations against him; he needs to go to trial and resign or face impeachment if found guilty. He thinks he is above the law because he has probably gotten away with countless crimes throughout his lifetime; it’s time for the 1% and men in general to be put in their place.

The woman stating that they were harassed by Trump should be allowed to speak. Any and all allegations should be investigated.

I am soooo sick of angry, bitter, feminists trying their best to bring men down who are in a position of authority. Are they upset because they aren’t in a powerful position ? Will Bill Clinton be put under the scrutinizing eye ??? (Female in dispair)

As a Republican let me call you other pansy republicans HYPOCRITES! You’ve screamed moral judgement for the last twenty years and now that people want to hear the accusations against our sad excuse of a lying President you want to hold up what Democrats have or haven’t done! You’re the worst kind of sycophants! Trump has never been a true Republican and he’s NEVER had morals! Listen to his lies and blindly follow him, you all are examples of the worst aspect of our political society. In Germany you would have blindly followed Hitler.

Senators Flake and McCain please try to protect your constituents while you are STILL serving as our representatives! Please prevent the FCC from repealing net neutrality. Vote against this obscene tax bill Trump and the GOP are about the only people who want it! Please don’t allow roads in Alaska wilderness or oil drilling in protected areas. For that matter please stop this Administration from destroying our planet...we only have one. Allow Trumps accusers to be heard and their claims investigated he and Roy Moore are two peas in a pod and should not be allowed to serve our country in any public office. Please pass a clean Dreamers Act. Senator Flake just because you asked the GOP isn’t going to pass that legislation for you. If you vote in this obscene tax scam you will not go down in history as anything other than another weak willed Republican that helped destroy this country. By both of you towing the party line on this tax scam as far as I’m concerned your legacies as adding more than a trillion dollars to our national debt will be all that’s remembered about you. This Administration, House and Senate has already set this country back years, decades with environmental issues, healthcare and done more to ruin our standing as a nation. Please STAND UP for your constituents and country!!

The liberals set the standard for sexual harassment when they gave the Kennedy brothers a pass on their long stream of abuses of women. They doubled down on that standard when they gave Bill Clinton a pass on his long stream of abuses of women and his wife’s enabling of those abuses. We now know that there are many more who have been protected by this liberal standard and, suddenly, the liberals want their virginity back. Pathetic!

Let the women speak. 1st A. I personally don't watch/listen to fake news. No tax deductions for wild fires costs. Get the bills through house and Senate to the presidents desk. No tax credits for any filers without a social security number.

Well it looks like I can’t say this enough, Trump supporters will get what they paid for and as long as they continue to defend him they deserve all the poverty, famine, unemployment and disease they can tolerate.

All accused need to be reviewed following the same standards. If Al Franken steps down Trump and Moore need to held to the same actions. No double standards. And we all need proper criteria set up to define the differences between harassment vs assault vs flirting. What is legal and what is not? Should a person lose their job based on accusations? Or should there be a process-hearings?
