Trump Shifts Blame to Democrats for Possible Government Shutdown

Are the Democrats responsible for a possible shutdown?

by Axios | 12.21.18

President Trump tweeted Friday that it would be a "Democrat Shutdown" if Senate Democrats vote down the short-term spending bill that the House passed last night, which includes $5.7 billion for Trump's border wall.

"Senator Mitch McConnell should fight for the Wall and Border Security as hard as he fought for anything. He will need Democrat votes, but as shown in the House, good things happen. If enough Dems don’t vote, it will be a Democrat Shutdown! House Republicans were great yesterday!"

Why it matters: Trump said last week that he'd be "proud to shut down the government," and said he would take full responsibility for a shutdown over border security. Meanwhile, the bill passed by the House last night is almost certainly going to fail in the Senate, and a partial government shutdown will go into effect at midnight if no deal is reached. This week, Trump shot down a short-term spending bill that the Senate approved over border security.

Trump stated, “I would be proud to shut down the government for border security.” Now he is throwing another temper tantrum to get his way. When are Republicans going to have the spine to stand up to this immature, childish behavior? It is not in the best interest of this country to throw 5 billion dollars on a wall when a combination of interventions would better meet the needs of a secure border. He is promoting his view as an absolute Truth but his perception and life experience has lead him to an overreaching misinterpretation. How can a person with a limited knowledge of the truth of border security turn it into the one and only version of reality. Not all versions of the truth are equal. If the Senators are wise they will stand up to Trump and his limited view of reality. I expect my Senators to vote no and hold Trump accountable

The Democrat Socialist party of hate, identity politics, resistance, violence, illegal immigration, anti Americanism is definitely at fault. This party is a disgrace and will get all the blame that is coming due. Shameful what this party has become. This isn’t the same party I remember 20 years ago.

It’s Trump’s stupid position on absolutely everything in this world, that is to blame. It makes both parties, which in my opinion shouldn’t exist, go at each other’s neck at fight until one side has to give in. It’s stupid!!!!

The house and the senate can override the president veto and it needs to be done to drive a message to this president and get back to bipartisan and governing this country! Trump is a bully and you do not negotiate with a bullying, that is the art of the deal Trump has. Also to get back to to governing and bipartisan everything needs to be 60% for a vote! 90% Drugs come across that the port of entry, not across in the middle of a Desert. A electronic surveillant’s wall is more efficient then Physical wall and can detect a lot better, you can’t dig under a electronic wall and it is cheaper. Republicans need to get a Spine and stand up to Trump. Fox News needs to be investigated to see what Fox News has on Trump, just like the Tabloids? Also Trump said Mexico was going to pay for the wall?

There’s No Doubt That The Democrat’s Will Bare FULL Responsibility President Trump tweeted Friday that it would be a "Democrat Shutdown" if Senate Democrats vote down the short-term spending bill that the House passed last night, which includes $5.7 billion for Trump's border wall. The Shut-Down will come back sadly, along with the “TinkleBell” Pelosi House leadership, to haunt the Democratic Party in the 2020 Election cycle. SneakyPete..... 😈😈😈😈. 12*21*18.....

An ultimatum is an ultimatum. No negotiation occurs. Ultimatums are made by bullies. They are the most afraid people on the planet. Closing or shutting down the government is solely the President’s decision, the author of the ultimatum.

This is childish. This is unprofessional. This is incompetence on the part of all Republicans. They are complicit in making America unsafe with these shutdowns. This is not a business dealing, in which you threaten to make someone’s life miserable or very difficult, if they do not do what you command. This is justification for removal of all Republicans from office for playing games with Citizens and putting people in harms way for power and greed and political dominance.

Absolutely NOT! Does the Bozo-in-Chief forget that he, on national news no less, and on even less than national news, Fox, accepted responsibility for any government shut-down. This is totally on your comb over, fake orange-yellow, oranged-faced head, part-time resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It is apparent #45’s plan is to lessen our military strength by leaving Syria high and dry, by bankrupting our Treasury, alienating the US from our Allies, keeping the Middle Class, Working Class, and Working Poor downtrodden, so the holder of his puppet strings Putin, can do as he pleases in all ways possible.

That’s the main problem with this Administration. There’s no responsibility and accountability. You never know what to expect and the truth doesn’t exist. It’s a shame!!

NO WAY! Just 10 days ago he was declaring he was 'proud to shut down the government' ON NATIONAL TELEVISION. “I would be proud to shutdown the government for border security, Chuck. I will shut it down and you can blame me.” - Donald Trump 12/11/2018

Republicans still have 100% control of necessary votes to pass all legislation, if they don’t pass something, it’s because the Republicans don’t agree. So..horsefeathers, I might add.

Both houses of Congress and the White House are held (Perhaps, held hostage is more appropriate) by Republicans. Republicans and their wannabe autocrat Trump are responsible for any government shutdown.

This shouldn’t even have been an issue since the great Negotiator could have had $25 billion last spring with a daca deal but blew that out the window. Remember he is a liar don’t believe anything he says

This is frankly very childish of the President. No one apart from his base wants a border wall.

The Republican Party controls all of Congress AND the White House. Trump sat in that same White House 10 days ago proclaiming he would be 'PROUD' to own the shutdown, thinking he could bully lawmakers into caving to give in to his outlandish demands. He lost and is now, predictably, backpedaling and attempting to remove himself of all responsibility for this debacle. Someone should explain to this dangerous child that, unlike him, most Americans pay attention and can remember what he says and does - even after 10 days have passed. Sorry, Donald, THIS IS ON YOU!!!!

Government shut down will affect real people working in real jobs that support real families. Work it out. Just because it's written into our constitution that congress and the president are exempt from loss of paychecks during sutdowns doesn't mean that there will be no consequences at all. Trump is most resposible for the mess we're in.
