Trump Administration Reportedly Plans to Pull U.S. Troops From Syria

Should U.S. troops withdraw from Syria?

by Axios | 12.19.18

The Trump administration has decided to pull all U.S. troops from Syria, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday morning, later seemingly bolstered by President Trump tweeting, "We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency."

The big picture: More than 2,000 American military personnel are set to come home "as quickly as possible," according to a defense official who spoke to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news. Leaving Syria after ISIS' defeat has previously been championed by Trump, who issued a surprise announcement back in March — much to the chagrin of many of his closest aides and later publicly softened — that U.S. personnel would leave the country "very soon."

I heavily disagree with this administration’s ability to keep a consistent foreign policy agenda. The only reason we are pulling out our troops is not because Daesh is “defeated” but because US troops are in the way of a rampaging Turkish army that is reducing the Kurdish army’s conquests. Turkey fears the Kurds because they have turned out to be the most able to withhold a democratic government in their territory and are a part of the ancient Turkish identity. Turkey is a NATO member and yet they have more territorial issues that should ever be allowed in NATO. The Kurds have helped the world dismantle Daesh, we should honor that commitment and offer them that territory they won over with their blood. Instead, the United States is turning their back on these noble people instead of standing up to Turkey and telling President Erdogan enough is enough. If Turkey wants a peaceful transitional government in Damascus, then the Kurds need to be a part of that. Turkey is on the path of genocide once again, just like they were before and after the Great War.

How much more stupidity and malfeasance does Trump need to exhibit before Congress bipartisanly declares him unfit for the office of President?!

Sounds like this is exactly what Putin would want him to do.

Makes goods sense to leave when the mission is over. Enough American blood has been spilled in the Middle East. We need to eliminate our dependency on oil. Then we wouldn’t need to be involved in the Middle East any longer. Let the leaders in that region resolve their own problems.

The generals are not the ones saying that ISIS is defeated. I don't believe our mission is accomplished yet and pulling out the troops would make the region even more unstable.

Yes, but not now. There is no security capable of repelling ISIS. And it must be in concert our what allies. Do not turn the Kurds over to the Turks. Bad things will happen. Also keep Trump away from defense and the State Department. In fact impeach this arrogant narcissistic impetuous misogynistic fool. He’s toxic to democracy.

I support ending all wars and bringing our troops back home. I am concerned, however, about the "Iraq Effect". Are we going to withdraw them all and then in two years when Syria is still a mess we're going to go back in to stabilize them?

Trump has pulled our troops out of Syria leaving it wide open for al-Assad and his buddy Putin to come right in and devastate and take over, while also removing the sanctions on Russian steel and aluminum. Mr. Trump has just proven to me he is a Russian asset & a traitor to this country. His talk about bringing back American mfg. & good paying jobs for hard working Americans is just “talk”, while giving Putin what he wants. Putin will own us all if Trump is not removed from office.

Bring our troops home. It's time to stop fighting useless, expensive wars that have nothing to do with America. There is a war brewing right here in America! BRING OUR PATRIOTS HOME!

We know this President has lied to us over and over again. Once again he is lying about the demise of ISIS and a reason to remove our troops from Syria. Shameful actions. Obviously, this President does not listen to his advisors or the people in his administration who have been doing this for years and know the TRUTH. Please #MakeAmericaSaneAgain

Leaving Syria is a terrible idea. Such a move will weaken conditions, and cause chaos in the Middle East. Further it will give more power in the region to Russia and Iran. My hope is that congress will step in and stop such harmful moves made by this unstable "president" of ours.

There is a terrible humanitarian crisis in the area and the civil war is ongoing; the US can and should be a stabilizing influence allowing for NGO's to do their jobs.

Why are we fighting other people's/countries wars? You don't see other countries coming to the US to fight the shooting and slaying of our own people in Chicago and other major crime ridden places. Work on #1, then go help others, once you've got your own country running properly.
