U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) is attempting to block the nomination of Chai Feldblum for another term on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), a federal office created to help survivors of workplace discrimination and sexual harassment seek justice under the law.
Why? Feldblum – outside of being the first openly LGBTQ person to serve on the commission – is what Lee described as using “the might of government to stamp out traditional marriage supporters.” The truth? She has simply worked to reaffirm marriage equality for all Americans, including LGBTQ people.
If Feldblum – and two others – aren’t confirmed by December 31, then the work of the EEOC will grind to a halt, leaving justice out of reach for many Americans who have experienced sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination.
Make your voice heard today. Contact your U.S. Senators, and demand that Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hold a floor vote on these nominations before the end of the year. One anti-LGBTQ activist should not silence Americans seeking justice under the law.
