The Daily Countable: Jerusalem, More Support for Moore, & A (Potential) Roadblock For Net Neutrality Rollback

by Countable | 12.6.17

Greetings, Folks. It's going to be another busy day, and we'll do our best to keep you up-to-date on where and how to take action.

One Big Thing

The whole world is abuzz about President Trump's plan to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel today. Some conservatives have been pushing for this for over 20 years, though all previous presidents since Clinton have resisted them. Find the Middle-East conflict inexplicable? You're not alone. You can start on understanding why this move by the president matters, and what it could mean for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, by reading our brief explainer here.

On the Radar

Splits in the GOP continue as the RNC throws their hat back in the ring for Senate Candidate Roy Moore, who's been accused of molesting multiple teenage girls when he was in his 30's. It's less than a week until the special election, Steve Bannon and now President Trump have thrown their weight behind the embattled candidate, and Moore is running neck-in-neck against his Democratic opponent, Doug Jones. Given the increased focus on sexual harrassment in Congress, what will happen if Moore wins is anyone's guess.

Under the Radar

The final Net Neutrality vote was scheduled for next week, but now a slew of officials are calling for a delay of the vote since it was discovered that millions of comments were submitted by bots or submitted more than once. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is insisting that the vote will proceed as planned, but NYS Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has said, "There’s no way with this set of corrupted records…[we can] have a vote based on what the American people really think." What do you think? Check out our article about the calls for a delay and use our widget to reach out directly to Chairman Pai. If you haven't yet reached out, he needs to hear from you!

Well he’s done it. He’s declared Jerusalem the Capital of Israel and ending the Peace talks and the two state solution. He may have started another war of his very own. Another distraction. A crime against humanity. A loss of more allies. More hatred against Muslims. An invitation for terrorism against the US and Israel. More death and destruction for our troops. Much more money spent on military. Way to go Donny. An ego boost to you. You truly are an asshat as are the GOP that goes along with you.

Moving our embassy to Jerusalem is a political maneuver that will cause death, destruction and chaos in the Middle East. It will also have an effect in the US as well. It will raise the value of attacking US assets both here and abroad. Israel may claim Jerusalem as it’s Capital but by actually our moving our Embassy to Jerusalem may ensure re-opening hostilities over the possession of the city. Jerusalem is important to many religions and cultures and countries in the Middle East, with this new importance, will be willing to fight for it’s control. Trump is turning this into an issue of religious dominance to satisfy his political base.

Recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will give more ammunition to ISIS and other groups. We should work towards peace and unity in the Middle East. Our president is not capable of understanding this as he is not capable of understanding most things. Americans also want net neutrality- it’s one of the only things keeping us from feeling like we are falling into a dictatorship.

We have a mentally ill and delusional president. He can’t even make sound decisions about his own diet and finances let alone make decisions for our country. Until we can have him locked up for his own safety (as well as our own) his powers need to be eliminated.

Two things we know for sure: The new embassy cannot be completed before we replace Trump. And this is just another way to distract from the investigation of Trump’s culpability in the Russian attempt to control our elections to their advantage.

Why not make Jerusalem a neutral zone for everyone who sees this area as sacred to their religion? We have no right making decisions for this area. We are not the ruler of the world. Trump may think he is but he is not.

For a president who claims to be concerned with keeping America safe, his impending declaration and move of an embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is a completely irresponsible and reckless maneuver. Risking the lives of Americans around the world under the pretense of keeping a campaign promise is dangerous. If this a good move, why did the State Department feel the need to release a statement warning our citizens of expected protests and violence? Haven't we insulted and enraged the Muslim and Arab world enough? On a practical note, the actual moving of an embassy is an extremely expensive undertaking. I predict it will be paid with even more of our Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security money to offset the cost. Another disgraceful display of the disdain this administration has for the working class they pretend to support.

As for the moving our Israeli Embassy to Jerusalem, I agree that now is the time to do it after 20 years of delay by previous administrations. Jerusalem has been the capital if Israel for time eternal, and as such, the USA 🇺🇸 should recognize it. I do find it extremely amusing, that folks who don’t agree with our duly elected President, come out with very derogatory comments about him. I spent 26 years in the Army protecting their right to speak their, mind and as such, so do I.

On the net neutrality issue we need free access just like we have been having we don’t need someone limiting limiting our amount of access to it. It needs to be free just like radio and television I’ve always been free if people want to pay more than they can pay more but they shouldn’t be able to slow down the people that don’t want to pay more because actually they’re getting it for free anyways and then they’re making a profit on us plus they get a commercial advertisement money so they’re not hurting. On The Roy Moore case I think you have to start at the top and make an example and I feel strongly about this because I’m almost 70 now and when I was 22 strong and healthy and working basically an all male environment my 30 year employment was difficult to say the least I at many times had to call on the union file grievances talk to my area manager talk to my supervisor the ones that I could talk to the other ones were abusers so yes and my sister-in-law was in the military she had the same exact circumstances I did. So if you don’t make an example at the top this just goes on and on and Mitch McConnell is in charge of that Office and should be more pressure put on him to do something. As you remember Senator Kennedy who has passed away now for the last few years and he was notorious for this behavior and yet nothing was done any woman I got anywhere near him had to go run and hide for her life and I guess that was more known in the military then in the public but it was nothing was done. Supervisors that I worked with one’s called I would on the carcarpet for that bad behavior where in raged and ready to fight back anyway they could even when their jobs were threatened the fire was still in their eyes. So where was that going to leave the woman after many years of hard work a good education and still no promotions insight whatsoever, whatsoever. Not even thought about totally no respect for women.

We said we would move our embassy. Since when has it become taboo to keep your word or to support your allies? I'm old school I guess, I believe it's important to do Both. When will the "peace loving" people understand Not everyone wants peace... It's not attainable unless both parties want it. You can't make payouts for killing Israelis on one hand and say you want peace with the other 🧐
