Chief of Staff John Kelly to Depart White House by the End of the Year

by Axios | Updated on 12.9.18

White House chief of staff John Kelly will leave his position at the White House by the end of the year, President Trump said Saturday as he departed for the Army-Navy football game. He will likely be replaced by Nick Ayers, Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff.

Why it matters: Trump has long discussed replacing Kelly, particularly as the White House gears up for his reelection in 2020. Meanwhile, Kelly is leaving at a time when Trump is facing three key threats — a wobbly stock market, a Democratic House with overt investigative power, and the Mueller investigation.

"John Kelly will be leaving, I don’t know if I can say ‘retiring.’ But, he’s a great guy. John Kelly will be leaving at the end of the year. We’ll be announcing who will be taking John’s place…over the next day or two... He’s been with me almost two years now... John Kelly will be leaving toward the end of the year, at the end of the year."

If a career military man can’t bring order to the chaos we call the Trump Administration then what can a 30 something with only campaign experience do? The REAL problem is the ‘real’ Donald Trump!

Didn't Comrade Bone Spurs claim he was going to surround himself with the best and brightest? He also claimed that he'd work all the time and never take a vacation.... How many trips to his country clubs have the tax payers paid for? What Comrade Bone Spurs really meant is that he's going to surround himself with ass kissers and law-breakers.

Oh Boy. Not that Kelly is a perfect guy - he told lies about women white & Black AND WOULD NOT APOLOGIZE- for which he should have lost his job way before this IN A NORMAL ADMINISTRATION but in the TRUMP ADMINISTRATION IS A WHOLE OTHER CAN OF WORMS AND WHEN KELLY LEAVES THE WORMS WILL HAVE NO CONTROLLER.

I am sorry that Kelly’s rep was soiled by his involvement withTrump. Trump has left a trail of bodies as he is loyal to no one but himself. There will be many more as the GOP will not moderate this emotional and power wielding man

JOHN KELLY when you do not stand for what is right, you are weak, liable and guilty for condoning anything that is against the rule and what is against God's rule of law. Have the testicular fortitude (sorry men) to stand. I can only respect a man or woman who stands up and speaks out against what is wrong!

General Kelly has demonstrated his true colors many times for us to see. He has shown himself to be a racist bigot. His lying about Congresswoman Wilson's comments at the dedication really say it all. My Father taught me, " if you don't have something nice to say about someone else, then don't say anything". General Kelly shames Irish people with his behavior, Good Riddance!

Kelly went into the job as the good soldier, willing to serve when his President asked. Managing the unmanageable is an impossible task, especially when the unmanageable one is as deeply personality disordered as Trump is. Kelly is far from perfect. His opinion of women is deplorable, he is blatantly racist. However, he stepped into a no win scenario, just as Nick Ayers will if he replaces John Kelly. Trump ultimately destroys all he touches.

My family is a retired USAF. Kelly really brought order to the White House where there was ~none~ For that I am forever grateful. I would have loved Kelly to remain within the Administration til 2020. But sometimes that just isn't possible. I hope my Representatives will be gracious enough to Thank General Kelly for his Service to this Country and to the White House. The People's House!

Kelly chose to be in the 45 regime. He diminished his reputation and managed to display his racism and his misogyny.

He might’ve been the only sanity keeping 45 away from the football. We can’t trust a deluded narcissist to exercise self restraint with our arsenal.

John Kelly, proved he had zero integrity when he took the job. He then went on to expose his ability to lye on a Black Congress Woman and refused to apologize for his lie. Just because he can’t see eye to eye with narcissism at its best, I don’t agree with his bigotry either. Yet he was in the military with such low morals. Yes I’m Fierce and Fiery, when it comes to these hypocrites and then the evilgelicals pretend to know Jesus Christ and support these bigots. Merry Christmas

Of course he is leaving, this White House is a disgraceful mess. I'm not any more surprised by anyone's departure than I am by anyone lowering themselves to work here in the first place. Hopefully the orange traitor and his grifter family will be the next out the door!

Glad to see John Kelly go. He's racist, bigot that did nothing to try & control Trump. He helped Trump obstruct justice. He's anti women also.
