What’s Congress Voting On? Week of December 4, 2017
Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
Both chambers of Congress will begin their work weeks on Monday, with a potential government shutdown looming at the end of the week if lawmakers are unable to reach a deal to keep the government open.
The House will vote Monday on a motion to go to conference committee on the GOP tax reform bill to negotiate a deal with the Senate over the differences in their respective versions of the legislation. Tuesday will bring votes on seven bills, including legislation to cut off foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority for rewarding terrorists, increase penalties for female genital mutilation, make members of the Secret Service eligible for overtime. The middle of the week will feature a vote on legislation to allow people with concealed carry permits to carry a concealed weapon in another state in compliance with that state’s law. The House will also vote on two bills related to financial services regulations and spending legislation.
The Senate will also go through the procedures necessary to start conference committee negotiations on the tax bill early in the week, and on Monday will vote to start debate on the nomination of Kirstjen Nielsen to be Secretary of Homeland Security. Its schedule for the rest of the week is yet to be announced.
