Obama Expels Russian Diplomats Over Election Meddling, Kremlin Promises to Push Back and More You Missed in Politics Today

by Countable | 12.29.16

It’s difficult to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in this country and to break through the clutter, so we’re here to make it easier. Here’s what we at Countable are reading today:

1. "Obama orders Russia expulsions, sanctions for interference in 2016 elections"

"President Barack Obama on Thursday ordered the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats and sanctioned Russian intelligence officials who Washington believes were involved in hacking U.S. political groups in the 2016 presidential election."

"The measures, taken during the last days of Obama's presidency, mark a new low in U.S.-Russian relations which have deteriorated over serious differences on Ukraine and Syria."

2. "Kremlin spokesman vows retaliation against U.S. sanctions"

"The Kremlin on Friday issued a stark warning to the United States, saying it would respond in kind to the U.S. expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats and other sanctions following the Russian hacking of U.S. political parties before the 2016 presidential elections."

"“I cannot say now what the response will be, although, as we know, there is no alternative here to the principle of reciprocity," said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov in a statement late Thursday evening reported by the Interfax news service.”

"He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin would decide the exact response."

3. "Russia’s Putin says Syrian government, opposition sign cease-fire deal"

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire between Syrian opposition groups and the Syrian government starting at midnight on Thursday.

The Kremlin statement came after Moscow, Iran and Turkey said they were ready to broker a peace deal in the nearly six-year-old Syrian war.

4. "The VA Hooked Vets on Opioids, Then Failed Them Again"

"The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs acknowledges its role in creating a large population of opioid-addicted veterans by overprescribing painkillers for injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. After the agency tightened prescribing practices in 2013, many veterans bought pain pills sold illicitly on the streets. When those became too expensive, they sought heroin and fentanyl, a potent synthetic narcotic."

"The VA is now struggling to undo the damage. Hampered by budgetary and bureaucratic obstacles, it has failed to build a rehabilitation program robust enough to meet the overwhelming demand for treatment from the tens of thousands of veterans with opioid addiction, say analysts who have studied the issue. That has left many veterans to fend for themselves, tapping whatever resources they can find to battle a chronic, complex—and frequently fatal—condition."

5. "New Judicial Watch documents: Obama spent taxpayer money campaigning for Hillary Clinton"

"President Barack Obama appeared to spend $360,236 of taxpayer money on a campaign trip to North Carolina on Air Force One with Hillary Clinton, a Freedom of Information Act request by a watchdog group found."

"Air Force One costs $180,118 per hour in flight, and the aircraft flew two hours round-trip to make the July 2016 trip to North Carolina, the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command Headquarters said in its response to a FOIA request by the conservative group Judicial Watch."

It's essential that we make it clear we won't tolerate interference in our elections. This is a great move to make clear that there will be retaliation for interference in our government.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars Obama used against Benjamin Netanyahu meddling in his reelection. Julian Assange, whose integrity is spotless with Wikileaks has repeatedly said No Hacking it was a LEAK from our own intelligence. It's doesn't take a rocket science to figure out that our personal in intelligence REBELLED. The REASON HRC used an unprotected server. RESULT it got operatives in foreign countries discovered. That lead them being murdered. Ask the question months ago Obama was not concerned about Russian hacking our computers or intelligence. It's because in the beginning the democrats were using the Russians to their advantage.what was it Emanuel said never let a good ?? Go to waste. The propaganda was just recycled and reinvented to fit their narrative. Never in the history of this nation have I witnessed a more deceitful president or the naive ppl that still believe BHO is an American citizen, a Christian, do Good by America. His BC and SS FRAUDULENT, he's a Muslim, and he has been a wrecking ball for his divide and conquer communist ways. In 2008 he goes to the western wall with skull cap on and pretends to pray deceiver. Now he has betrayed Israel and back stabbed Christians by wanting to give it to the terrorists Hamas. He is deceiving us about Russia. I am witnessing an anti American president spinning off the charts chaos for a new administration to deal with. Impeach him now and arrest him for treason. No doubt in my mind he wants a nuclear war and all of America destroyed. Where are the critical thinkers, common sense. Congress get a fricking spine get rid of this frick and frack administration!

I don't mind chipping in my damn tax money to fly the President to a campaign rally. I have a major problem with a foreign government influencing an election and helping a guy with pinko business ties.

I just wish this action hadn't taken a month and a half to happen. This is a serious breach in the integrity of our electoral system. I view trump as an illegitimate president elect and feel the entire electoral process needs to happen again starting with primaries.

Russia absolutely needs to be held accountable for meddling in our election, and a congressional investigation into their involvement is necessary to safeguard our democracy.

Obama said that Russia did not influence elections, then came out that Russia did influence the elections, what is the truth, it cane not be both. Under the circumstances it can't be both. Do nothing and let Trump deal with the problem. Tell Obama to go golfing instead, less head aches and every one is happy until his term ends.

Obama did this for political reasons. Need to find ways to avoid tampering by all other countries not just Russia.

No proof of tampering. I do not believe what Obama says anyway. Just some vague claims by some agency suits.

To those calling for a re-election, I would agree under a very little circumstances. Russians hacked voting machines or hacked a computer containing the results. They didn't do that, they allegedly hacked and released emails. That doesn't warrant a re-election that warrants praise for exposing Hillary and her cronies.

Addendum: I believe Putin/Russia would be valuable allies. This NWO is not invincible but the disinformation spin doctors are at it continuously, they still want to maintain the belief that Russia is the bad guys so we DON"T join against the true evil. Putin knows it, Trump knows it, the only people not in on the truth are the US citizens.Don't trust the press, news media in general, or what communist-agenda politicians and certain presidents may say.
