Committee Watch: Delayed GI Bill Benefits, Big Bank Bankruptcies & Judicial Nominations

Before bills and nominations are brought up for a passage vote in Congress, they typically have to be considered and approved by relevant committees ― which also conduct oversight of federal agencies. Here’s a look at what Congressional committees will be holding hearings on this week.
Schedule subject to change. All times Eastern.
Tuesday
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold confirmation hearings on the nominations of one circuit court judge and four district court judges. 10am
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Big Bank Bankruptcy: 10 Years After Lehman Brothers”. 2pm
- The Senate Homeland Security Committee will hold confirmation hearings on the nominations of Steven Dillingham to be Director of the Census and Michael Kubayanda to be Commissioner of the Postal Regulatory Commission. 5:30pm
Wednesday
- The House Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Technology Modernization will hold a “180-Day Review of the Electronic Health Record Modernization Program”. 10am
- The House Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity will hold “A Continued Review of GI Bill Payment Delays”. 2pm
- The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold confirmation hearings on the nominations of ambassadors to Benin, Gambia, and Equatorial Guinea. 2:30pm
Thursday
- The Senate Environment Committee will hold a hearing to examine funding needs for wildlife conservation, recovery, and management. 9:55am
- The Senate Homeland Security Committee will hold confirmation hearings on the nominations of an assistant secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the director of the D.C. Offender Supervision Agency. 10am
- The Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing to hear semi-annual testimony about the “Federal Reserve’s Supervision and Regulation of the Financial System”, with the Fed’s Vice Chairman for Supervision Randal Quarles the sole witness. 10am
- The House Oversight Committee will hold a hearing “Examining Misconduct and Retaliation at the U.S. Forest Service”. 10am
- The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee will hold hearings on the nominations of the director of the National Park Service, a member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and an assistant secretary of energy. 10am
- The Senate Intelligence Committee will hold a closed briefing. 2pm
