The office of Georgia Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp posted an Excel file Wednesday containing personal information about voters who mailed in absentee ballots, including addresses, names, and whether they are elderly or disabled. The file is publicly accessible for download.
Why it matters: People trust the government to restrict access to this information, but it didn't in this case. Secretaries of state are not restricted from divulging this information (with the exception of giving it to commercial entities), but making it readily available online makes it much easier for anyone — not just those approved by a secretary of state's office — to access this personal, sensitive information.
To be sure: What Kemp's office did is different from a group that sold personal voter information on dark web channels last month. That information was, for the most part, publicly available beforehand, but the nefarious outcome in that case was that the group was seeking to sell the data.

By breaking the trust of the people of GA, Kemp’s deliberate invasion of privacy has announced to the whole country exactly what sort of disreputable person he is. Kemp should be removed as SoS as well as disqualified as a GA Gubernatorial candidate. The very least, ALL the citizens of GA, (including the over 50,000 voter registrations suppressed by Kemp), should demand a run off election in December.
This is a clear violation of the public trust. While Kemp may not have personally posted the information it did come from his office which makes him responsible for the release of the data and the corresponding violation of the public trust. When you look at what he has done to suppress votes I have to wonder why anyone would want someone so deceitful and manipulative to lead their state.
All of this is public information. This is a nonissue! Call me when you're ready to stop Democrat "volunteers" from turning up on my doorstep to "encourage" me to vote as they suggest. 4 seperate times, immediately prior to election day.
Anyone who perpetuates 45’s nonsense about Dems having votes from dead people, please stop. What Kemp did he did because he is concerned he may actually lose the election that he absolutely rigged.
PA posts absentee ballots at the place of polling so people can see who voted absentee. It’s part of our voting practices, and always has been. Sounds like Georgia has the same time honored practice.
I do not condone this by no means because people who had nothing to do with this other than vote now have info out there for all to see. We have become so divided and no one can stand to loose or know how to loose ( thanks participation trophy) that grown adults can not just say this is my idea and that is yours let’s let the voters decide. They just throw darts at each other and try to dig up dirt and call names. The numbers show that Kemp won so why can’t the lefties just take the loss and move on. We need more viable parties now more than ever. We more mature and civil politicians all around.
Every single person in the United States still claiming the title Republican, is completely amoral. Conservatives that are decent human beings and patriots should create a new party.
Kemp is doing everything to show his contempt for the sanctity of the ballot. He bans voters. He refuses to register voters. He violated the privacy of voters. The Fascist Party will do anything to steal power. Prison for him!
His actions are disqualifying.
Brian Kemp doesn’t deserve to be elected dog catcher. He’s a disgrace to this country and should be removed from his current post. Maybe we should lock him up?!
What is wrong w/ him & his enablers?
That should be against the law.
There’s no reason that should be publicly available. We need to be better about respecting an individual’s right to privacy. Who really wants some jerk with a conspiracy theory and no authority showing up to your home to demand proof of your identity?
Uh, that’s a huge privacy violation. Peoples disability status is protected information. That’s a violation of the laws.
And the people of Georgia want this snake running their State Government? It is true - you get the government you deserve. Another reason I will NEVER live or work in Georgia!
LOCK UP KEMP FOR THE RACIST KKK SLOB THAT HE IS !! ANOTHER CORRUPT REPUBLICAN STUNT TO GIVE PRIVATE INFORMATION OF VOTERS TO THE KKK TO SOW TERROR AND SUPPRESS OUR VOTE !!! JERK HIM OUT OF OFFICE BY THE COLLAR AND THROW HIM IN PRISON FOR OBSTRUCTING OUR VOTES !!!
The office of Georgia Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp posted an Excel file Wednesday containing personal information. He did his to intimidate the voters. The people that post that vote fraud and dead people are voting, must know more then the people Trump had a sign a Committee to investigated, which found no such thing. There is voter suppression which have been shown. May be you should share your evidence with the FBI!
This conduct is reprehensible and should not be tolerated under any circumstances, unfortunately it happens too often in the world that we find ourselves in today. It is a sad state of affairs when this is the norm and no longer surprises anyone.
Kemp is just the latest example of how not to do elections. Since 2000 the republiKKKans have done nothing but suppress citizens rights to vote. Through intimidation, gerrymandering, making it harder to vote by voting laws, making shorter voting hours/ limiting when early voting can happen, the republiKKKan continue to do the most unAmerican thing a party can do—strip citizens of their right to vote.
And I thought living in Alabama was bad. Why in the hell would you just willy nilly give this information away? Something nefarious I’m sure.
I hope they put together a criminal class action against him.
No fowl. The entirety of the voter registration lists, for all parties and non-partisans can be bought at your County offices. I believe the rate in Nebraska is 1 penny per name. The only issue I see here is that the counties did not get any revenue at all.
